We are just back from four days in Venice and feel privileged to have stayed at the Hotel Grande. The rooms are magnifico and decorated in the style of historic Venice and this gives an added romantic feel. The staff are helpful, no they are more than helpful, going out of their way to ensure you visit is unforgettable. Un... More

Whats not to like about this lovely hotel. The rooms are compact but beautifully decorated and furnished. Lovely assortment of toiletries in the room and something sweet! The staff are helpful and nothing is too much. The location is perfect opposite the railway station and a short walk to the river boats which are cheap and you can buy a... More

We went to Venice for my birthday on January 30th 2016. The Hotel Canal was an excellent choice being close to the bus station, railway station and on the Grand Canal. Our room had an excellent en-suite with an over bath shower. The décor was a bit jazzy with gold brocade padded walls with brocade edging, a gold brocade bed... More

A very good hotel in a great location. Everywhere of interest was easily accessed on foot. After a couple of explorations you realise Venice isn't as hard to navigate as you first thought. The room was very grand with a view onto the canal. I'd definitely recommend it.

The hotel is located within 10 minutes walking distance of the railway and bus station, it is on the Grand Canal with a cantilevering deck over the water. The rooms are decorated to the highest standard, linen was replaced daily for clean/fresh. The breakfast arrangements were relaxed and the food choice wonderful. The staff were very polite and welcoming. Just... More

An excellent choice if arriving in venice by train. Five minute walk with only two bridges to cross to get there. Lovely rooms, bathrooms and toileteries. The decor is sumptious. Good cold buffet breakfast but the jug of 'american coffee' is quite weak. Great fresh fruit salad and cakes for breakfast as well as plenty of cold meats, cheese etc.... More

We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered and were given an room upgrade. A friendly lady accompanied us to our room and showed us everything inside. The room itself was beautiful, Venetian style with 2 bathrooms a tv room and a bedroom which was furnished extravagantly. There was a nice view of the canal at breakfast and everyone... More

Went for a weekend to Venice, First time there so looking to it forward immensely. Booked Hotel Canal Grande and arrived via water taxi! Cool! Great Service, good food, lovely room overlooking the Grand Canal and 5 minutes from the waterbus stop at the railway station. As a location you couldn't beat it for the price. Our room was top... This weekend, my husband took me to Canal Grande for 3 nights for my birthday. This hotel is in a really good location, on the canal near to the bus station, train station and water transport. Our room was on the small side, as we expected, but it was immaculate, as was all areas of the hotel - sparklingly clean.... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
