Just returned after a 3 night stay in this beautifully appointed hotel which is convenient to Santa Lucia train station in a true Venentian area. On arrival we were welcomed by Chiara and her staff who were very friendly and were offered an upgrade to a suite, which was stunning. The room was beautifully decorated with a exceptionally comfortable 4... More

Alessandro at the hotel made our trip to Venice and the hotel magical. We will definitely go back and look forward to seeing Alessandro again as he was very helpful and kind. Venice itself is magical. I would recommend this hotel and the hospitality from the whole staff to anyone.

What a perfect location from which to explore Venice! Enjoyed breakfast on the terrace every morning. Easy proximity to the train station. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Rooms were ready when we arrived, mid-day. We were even shown the various types of rooms, in case we wanted to upgrade. Staff was always ready with tips, advice, and directions.

This is a perfect hotel in Venice. It is a relatively new hotel approx 6yrs old so is up to date yet still has the authentic feel of Venice. The rooms were a good size and they had excellent shower facilities and free Wifi everywhere in the hotel. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail. For example, the staff... More

We just stayed 4 nights at the hotel. Chiara and her staff could not have been more wonderful, attentive and accommodating. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the St. Lucia (main) train station. TIP: You have to cross 2 bridges with many stairs (up and down; no ramp) to get to the hotel from the train station. A... More

Stayed here for one night in August 15 as part of a wider trip to Northern Italy. We stayed in a standard guest room which was, as the photos show, very grand in terms of detail and decoration. Only complaint is the photos make the rooms look bigger than they are - they are very small! The service at the... More

This was the first stop on our honeymoon and was excellent, they offered us a cheap upgrade to a suite, which then had a private roof terrace! They have a lovely (small) terrace on the Grand Canal, which is fantastic to have breakfast on! Breakfast is good quality and the staff cannot do enough for you, especially Chiara on reception!... Great location (close to the station) and set on the grand canal. We were here for just 2 days after a cruise and were delighted with our choice. This is a relatively new hotel on the grand canal and that sets it apart is the quality of service. Attentive and personal which smaller hotels can do and with great recommendations for... More

We stayed at the Hotel Grande Canal in Venice during the first leg of our family's "grand tour" of Italy. We stayed two nights with two rooms in the main building on the second floor. The hotel is boutique in every way - attentive staff, few rooms per floor, quiet location, with many restaurants and shops in the area. The... More

Booked 3 rooms here for a family few days after a cruise. Arrived by water taxi to be met on the veranda overlooking the Grand Canal by our daughter and husband who were having breakfast- a unique experience. Lovely hotel - all 3 of our rooms different but special in their own way - great bathrooms! Good breakfast selection and... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
