4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I'm a bit confused by the exceptional placement of Hotel Canal Grande on TA-this is the main reason I booked there. This is a smaller hotel across the Grand Canal from the ferrovia that evidently has been completely rebuilt inside. The rooms are furnished in classic Venetian style, brocade wall coverings, inlaid floors and baroque style furnishings all in perfect... More

Our stay at Hotel Canal Grande was pleasant but we did notice some areas for improvement. We requested a room in the main building but upon arrival we were given a room in the building next to the hotel. We noticed the room was quite small. After telling the reception desk that we had requested a room in the main... More

I booked this hotel after reading positive reviews on this site and wasn't disappointed. The reception staff were excellent and gave us a very warm welcome. Our room was in the building a few doors down from the main hotel and we were given the option of a ground floor or first floor room. We chose the ground floor as... More

My husband and I stayed for a couple of nights for our 10 yr anniversary. Our arrival was greeted with a room upgrade, the staff personnel could not do enough for us, recommendations to eat out, destinations to see, late night drinks, etc. The location was perfect for walking the city day and night. Would love to go back!

We happened to mention that this was a return visit, having stayed there last spring, and were very lucky to be offered a room upgrade. Just as last year, the room was excellent, fantastic service, lovely continental breakfast with such a huge range of options you just wish your stomach was bigger! If you are travelling hand luggage only, the... More

My husband and I stayed only one night but in such a short time the hotel and its location was enough to leave us wanting more! The staff was very friendly and pleasantly eager to assist. They were also very informative regarding places to dine, transportation and places to see. The hotel itself was very clean and very comfortable, and has... More

We stayed at Canal Grande for 3 nights to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday as well as our 10 year wedding anniversary. We splurged and had the best suite in the hotel, it had 5 windows over-looking the canal, including a couple that were actually little terraces where you could stand with a glass of red and marvel at the... My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon. We booked a Gran Canal Prestige Double Room and because it was our honeymoon they had reserved us the only one in that category with a terrace. It was room #201 and the terrace was quite large which overlooks the canal and... More

simply a lovely small friendly hotel in a great location with excellent bars and restaurants close by and of course over looking the grand canal. We stayed in a deluxe room (Pietro Longhi) over looking the canal, aptly named as it was like something out of a painting overlooking the canal with a small Juliet balcony above the square. Exquisitely... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
