My wife and I stayed here for one night at the end of a cruise in September 2014. We found San Stae easily enough using the Vaparetto, however it took some time to locate the hotel. I see someone has recently posted clear instructions on finding it. Where were you when I needed you? Suffice it to say - just... More

We stayed here for 3 nights it's right next to the vaporetto so easy access to and from the train station and the rest of the city. Rooms were nicely decorated And clean only thing I could say against this place was the breakfast options were very limited for such a nice hotel but with that said you don't come... More

We stayed at this hotel last time we stayed in Venice and just booked it again for our next trip. The hotel is on the canal and has great views from the lobby. The rooms are large, clean, and very tastefully decorated incorporating modern touches into the historic building. It is also convenient that the San Stae vaporetto and alilaguna... More

Lovely hotel, nicely decorated - new style tastefully incorporated within the old building, all very clean and service excellent. Breakfast slightly limited choice but enough to start the day, plenty of other places to eat in Venice. Excellent location - both for walking and water buses. 15 minutes walk from piazza Roma (where all cars terminate) and 15 minutes walk... More

We stayed at this hotel in April 2015. We found this hotel easy to find once we arrived at the Venezia S Lucia train station. Although our room was small it was clean and it overlooked the garden entrance of the hotel. The location of the hotel was excellent, with a water taxi station around the corner. Breakfast was good,... More

I can't understand how anyone could dislike this hotel or describe the staff as unfriendly. Alright the rooms might have been a little small, but everything was spotless and beautifully presented. One member of stall, the image of John Cleese, described his barman as "Manuelle"!

It was our first trip to Venice and we stayed in Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli for 4 nights. We had booked the standard double room and were disappointed to see how small it was when we got there. There was hardly any space to move in the room and the decor was not as impressive as compared to the pictures on... More

While the room we were given was ok (we actually had to call the front desk at one time and request them to ask the guests staying above us to quieten down), the front desk staff had this really dismissive, blasé attitude.. the only saving grace were the bellboy and the waitstaff at breakfast.... they were very nice.... we will... This is a wonderful hotel. It is conveniently located a 2 minute walk from a vaporetto stop and is a pleasant walk from most central Venice sights. I cannot stress how important this is, when in Venice as it dramatically improves your enjoyment and reduces your costs. (Hint, when you disembark at Stan Stae vaporetto stop on Line 1, go... More

We stayed in this hotel in the end of February beginning of March. The hotel is excellent. Great facilities, great location, great staff and great breakfast. Couldn't ask more for the price. The room was light and with a small lovely balcony facing the rear courtyard. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Venice and will... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
