This was the last hotel we stayed in at the end of a great tour through northern Italy and we honestly felt as though we were a bit second-class. We were stuck up in the attic or so it seemed, where there was no wifi and one had to be careful not to stand up too quickly unless you hit... More

I was at the end of a cruise and our group wanted to spend two nights in Venice. This hotel had been chosen by our travel agent. The hotel itself was very lovely, had lots of character and was located right on the Grand Canal. However, the staff was rude, never smiled, and acted like we were a bother whenever... More

We were quite worried about this hotel as we have heard horror stories about Venice accommodation and exorbitant prices but I can honestly say this property lived up to our expectations. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The room is comfortably spacious by European (especially Venetian) standards and the location right on the Grand Canal is unbeatable. Not only do... More

We stayed in Palazzo Giovanelli for three nights in May. It's a beautiful hotel, very well preserved. The vaporetto station is almost in front of the hotel and it needs only two-three stops to drive you to the most crowded area (Rialto & St. Marko). it's easy also to to go on foot, less than 10 min. to Rialto crossing... My husband booked this beautiful hotel due to its location and high standard. We were in room 404 which was spacious with 2 windows one which you looked on to a canal that you could see from the large bed and another to side of chiesa San Stae. Large bathroom with bath and separate shower. Nice touches ie dressing gowns.... More

Altho we stayed in probably the smallest room, it was large by European standards and the bathroom was very modern and spacious. The bathtub was huge and the rain shower head was fantastic! We really loved this hotel -- away from the madding crowd, but close enough to walk to San Marcos (Glad tho to have had a GPS map... More

We chose this hotel based on location and value for money and weren't disappointed. Easy to access from San Stae vaporetto station and we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious, well appointed room (standard courtyard) with a bit of luxe appeal. I don't understand previous reviews saying the rooms are dated. We found them very modern. Only issues would be... More

Pros: - Location, location, location Next to water taxi and 15-20 min walking distance from the train station - Quiet. Away from major tourist traffic centres, but near enough to walk within 15 minutes - Breakfast selection was good, order a coffee from the espresso machine. The latte macchiatto was superb. Cons: -Rooms are rather dated. -Stayed in courtyard view... More

My wife and I stayed here for one night at the end of a cruise in September 2014. We found San Stae easily enough using the Vaparetto, however it took some time to locate the hotel. I see someone has recently posted clear instructions on finding it. Where were you when I needed you? Suffice it to say - just... More

We stayed here for 3 nights it's right next to the vaporetto so easy access to and from the train station and the rest of the city. Rooms were nicely decorated And clean only thing I could say against this place was the breakfast options were very limited for such a nice hotel but with that said you don't come... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
