This hotel is ideally located. It is fairly centrally positioned on the island, faces directly onto the Grand Canal, has a vaporetto 'water-bus' stop (San Stae), right next to the property and it's just a 15 minute walk from the train station. The staff are friendly, efficient, and had us checked-in within just a minute of our arrival. Their enthusiasm... More

Well worth staying here. Close to San Stae ferry stop and within an easy walk to Rialto bridge. Comfortable rooms and had a nice view over gardens. Breakfast is part of the price and is good. The only real issue is having to pay do wifi at 7 euros each item for the 3 day stay. It was the only... More

We stayed on the fourth floor at the back of the hotel (not a canal facing view). The room was very comfortable, very clean and smelt amazing! The staff were very friendly and our check in was easy. We had to get a specific wifi code and user name, rather than a universal login, but this was no huge problem... More

I've spent in Palazzo Giovanelli 4 great days. In my opinion that was best hotel I ever stay in. Delicious breakfast! Fantastic stuff! Perfect location! Clean and beautiful rooms! I couldn't expect anything better. Thank you

This was a really good hotel. Spacious room, nice foyer and lounge area and in a good location. It is not too far from San Marco so you don't lay the premium but it is close enough to not feel like you are too removed. Had issues accessing the internet in our room and the breakfast was minimal (having said... More

I've stayed in some lovely hotels over the years but this one topped them all. Location, perfect (just one small bridge away from the water bus stop). Staff lovely, nothing too much trouble. Say ciao to the charismatic Dominico (who never seems to stray from his watchful place at reception). Hotel stylishly sumptuous (and the not - requested upgrade to... More

This was an absolutely beautiful hotel, my partner and I stayed for 5 nights the last weekend of November- young couple, early 20s, and I could not fault this placed for service! They gave us complimentary wifi codes upon arrival, all the staff were so friendly and polite and professional! The hotel was incredibly clean, and stylish! I think 4... More

I came as a first time traveller to Venice slightly apprehensive, both about the hotel and city itself. Happily I was proven very wrong, Venice is amazing and Palazzo Giovanelli was a brilliant place to stay. The staff were friendly and the man at the reception during the late afternoon and evening (whose name escapes me) was wonderful reccomending two... More

This is my fourth stay in Venice, and this is by far my favorite hotel so far. The location is great, the service is top-notch, and the room spacious. It is right next to the San Stae stop on the vaperetto, or a 15 minute walk to the train station. I simply bought the 24 hr pass and rode the... More

We arrived in the middle of a terrible storm in the off-season and found the warmest welcome imaginable! The staff at the Palazzo Giovanelli was top-notch--professional, welcoming but unobtrusive, multilingual. The property is only minimally adapted from its previous life as a private estate, so every room is different and the layout is charmingly odd. We were upgraded to a... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
