Great location. We didnt have much luggage but it was nice to not trek with bags through the city. The hotel has charm and is clean. Breakfast was basic and the area could be made better. It is on the opposite side of the canal to the train station which has the boat service outside you can get a day... More

We stayed here one night after our cruise and before our flight. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was situated opposite the railway station and near the bus station. There is no lift and we had to carry our luggage up two flights of stairs but the view from our bedroom was well worth it. The room, towels and... More

Hotel Canal is a reasonably priced hotel in Venice with great proximity to Venezia Sta. Lucia train station. It has a great view of the Grand Canal through your room window. There is a very delicious breakfast buffet as well.

The hotel is very well located. The rooms are ok, but the windows are too old. The breakfast is aceptable: milk, coffee, toasts, but the juice is not natural, is like tang o something similar. Good price good location.

Location is on Canal across from train station. Room was very small and dated. Had a hard time to fit two suitcases in room without tripping over them. Bathrooms were not the best. Staff was excellent!

A nice hotel near the railway station (just across the bridge) and a bus station (if you go by bus from the airport). Good breakfast in the garden. Very friendly staff. Clean, comfortable room (the pipe in the bathroom started to leak but was immediately repaired). WiFi is good and fast and you have to pay for it.

I LOVED this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and I was amazed at how many languages they were fluent in. Please bear in mind this is not like a chain hotel. It's a small boutique hotel without an elevator, so be prepared to carry your bags up the stairs. The location of the hotel was ideal.... More

the room was a bit old and so were the beds but at least they were clean and the bathroom was roomy and clean. AC worked well. the location is excellent. the breakfast provided was over my expectation as everything in Venice was expensive.

this hotel was a shocking let down. I though my return to Venice would be a highlight , instead it has left nasty memories. Yes its a very old building but most staff were very unhelpful. We concurred with another couple that the hotel was one of the worst we had ever stayed in. Our room was on the top... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
