We are just back from 5 days in Venice. We booked this hotel as our budget was small but we wanted to make the most of our short break and not waste time with transport with our children (13 and 9). The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. The room was comfortable and very clean. The hotel is old... More

This Hotel is in an excellent position, only 5 mins from Bus Station. Only 2 bridges to go over. Well situated for the Vaporatto. easy walk to St Marks and Rialto Bridge. Room was Shabby Chic, still some old plumbing in the Bathroom, only one Power Point in the room. Breakfast was self service & all you can eat. Lots... More

So, in Venice, everything has to be old, Medieval and I love it. But does the bed have to be Medieval, too? We left the place after a night only and bed bugs got the better of us. We only had to stay here for one night before the cruise, luckily or else we would have been marked with red... More

Dear Customer, I would like to communicate that the Hotel Canal is one of the many hotels under the control of a specialized company agaist the bedbug. This procedure is very common in Venice. Each room is checked regularly and no trace of bedbugs was found. All written certifications of these controls are available in the hotel. Thanks and regards More

Spent 3 nights here. Of all the hotels in the area around the top of the Grand Canal and very near the bus station was by far the cheapest of those we enquired at (half the price of the Best Weston hotel). Breakfast - typical fare for Italian hotels - it was the same as the previous hotel we stopped... More

This hotel was small and very close to the main pick up point for the buses into Venice. Which is what i gave one point for. The sec on point was due to the friendly and warm staff. They were an absolute pleasure to talk to. However it started going downhill as soon as we went into the hotel it... More

Good side is that I did not sopping in the room. That was most important. The hotel is poorly maintained, with worn-out bathroom. Self service breakfast is poor. Wi-fi 3 eur / 10 hrs. False kindness man at the front desk. I will not go back.

this hotel is a filthy hostel with rude employees. If I could give less than 1 star I would. It would be cleaner to sleep on the sidewalk outside. They charge for Internet and even a map of the city. Door does not shut properly and anyone could break into the room with a small push. Room door does not... More

If you are looking for modern luxury, this isn't it! But if you want old style comfort, friendliness and faded elegance at a very good price, book here immediately! Friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast and a comfortable bed ina fantastic location.

My partner and I had a great time in Venice and the traditional style of the rooms at this hotel really helped complete our Venetian experience. The view of the grand canal from our window was brilliant. I found the staff very polite an the breakfast was a great (and cheap) way to start the day. Our only issue was... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
