Our triple room was large and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful. We got great restaurant recommendations and one man took time to help us plan a day trip to Verona. The location is perfect for accessing the city. San Marco seems a lot more crowded than San Polo but Palazzo Paruta is tucked at the back of a... More

We stayed 4 nights to celebrate my 40th birthday. Having researched various hotels, this beautiful truly lavish traditional Venetian styled boutique hotel lived up to and exceed our expectations. The decor, the comfort - mattresses and pillows were incredibly comfortable - the service, the location, the quality of food... all fantastic! Just 10 minutes walk to both Rialto and St... More

We wanted to splurge on a nice hotel in Venice and were surprised that for ~$300 per night the pillows were like cardboard, the room was much smaller than we anticipated, and the hotel didn't even provide any shampoo and conditioner, which sounds silly but it's those kinds of things you expect in a luxury hotel. The map the concierge... More

While not so easy to find, but then nothing is easy to find in Venice, this is a lovely place with very good service. I want to emphasize this in the light of the negative review. I arrived with an acute case of motion sickness and they could not have been more understanding. The breakfast was very good, and the... More

Wife & I stayed here for four days last year and plan to return on next visit to Venice. Quiet and yet close to everything any vacation-traveler would need. Explored Venice on foot, just a block off a Gondola stop, and a few blocks away from Grand Canal. Just a short walk to San Marco's, great restaurants close by. Looking... More

The room was quaint and very functional. It was quite different than any of the other rooms we encountered on our trip. The included breakfasts were excellent. We also REALLY enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea which we found to be at a perfect time after we went out and explored for 6-8 hours after breakfast. We used this period as... More

Is terrible the worst Trip Advisor has? I guess I don't know what "superior" stands for in Italian. It must mean a small room in the basement with no service from the staff. The only staff member to be helpful was the bell boy who found us after the water taxi dropped us off a couple of maze like blocks... More

Our family of four wanted to stay close to San Marco's Square, but not in the busy square. This hotel was a short distance and made us feel as though we were in a real Palace! The canopy bed, the cool quiet little hidden room and the chandelier made it a superior stay. We enjoyed tea and small sandwiches in... More

The rooms were large and ours had a roof top balconies ! Can't says if it is central located it was hard to find when you get off the rail the water taxi (60 euros later) dumps you and really doesn't give you any directions.. Still had a hard time finding it after going out and trying to come back,... More

The boutique hotel is wrapped around a serene, two-level center courtyard. Common rooms (such as the sitting area and breakfast room) are richly done in heavy fabrics. Our deluxe room had a semi-canopied bed, separate sitting area, large private patio overlooking the street below, and a nice-size bathroom. All staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast buffet is great,... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
