We stayed 3 nights at the Palazzo Paruta in a Deluxe room. The room was beautiful with a little balcony overlooking the courtyard. Peaceful and quiet and a couple of minutes from the Grand Canal and Vaporetto stop and very close to the Accademia area. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. A great base to stay in order to explore Venice.

This hotel is OK, but only OK. Their website has done a good job on the imagery and gallery but the reality is some way short. I paid top money via Booking.com but if I did this trip again, I would get a mainstream hotel (Best Western or Holiday Inn etc) or a 3 star punching above its weight in... More

Felt like a princess. We stayed in a junior suite exactly like the one pictured. The room was enormous. The walls were hand painted. It was as if we stepped back in time to the 17th century. They treated us like royalty, would go back in a heartbeat.

Impressive decor of the public areas and a room, just steps away from the busy center yet not crowded at all. I work in the hotel industry and was quite disappointed with service we got at the front desk. No elaborated recommendations, we didnt feel special although it was our engagement trip, didnt even get a note or anything, no... More

My wife and I stayed at the Palazzo Paruta for 3 nights while visiting Venice earlier this month to celebrate (almost) 5 years together and it was my Christmas present to her, along with 4 very hectic days in Rome. It was booked as a romantic "get away" and was everthing that we wanted. The total experience from start to... More

My husband and I have just completed our first time honeymoon stay and trip to Venice. This hotel is outstanding in all aspects - upon arrival staff were welcoming and informed us they had upgraded us to a junior suite with private balcony. The decor and hotel furnishings - as is the outdoor courtyard - is truly stunning and offers... More

This former convent is tucked away in the corner of Campo St Angelo over a small bridge - this might help you track this treasure down. No more than 10 minutes from the likes of the Rialto Bridge or St Mark's Square. Great service, particularly Julien the Maitre'd. Lovely courtyard which is a great relief from the heat? Only drawback... More

This is a quiet little hotel, with nice staff and no fuss. My double room was small, but then I got a bargain online and it had a bed and bathroom, so I had no complaints. It has free wifi, dodgy TV reception, a strict "no outside food" policy (though it's hard to know how they can police it), clean... More

This hotel is very "Venetian", extremely well decorated, which gives you an impression that you live amongst antiques and history, elegant and luxurious is how I would describe it. I booked a standard room, but would have liked to upgrade had the hotel not been fully booked. Everyone I encountered in this hotel is courteous and willing. It was a... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
