My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights during the madness of the carnival! It was wonderful to have such a peaceful 'home' to retreat to after long days if walking and exploring. Francesco is the perfect host, and all of his suggestions for restaurants and sights to see we're spot on. My girlfriend is a violin player so it... More

We loved Francesco's charming bed and breakfast in one of the quietest parts of Venice. It is tucked away in Dorsoduro, on the opposite side of the Grand Canal, well away from the tourist hordes. City noise melted away behind stone walls and we were pleasantly awakened each morning to the sound of church bells. Breakfast was served by Francesco... More

We stayed here for four nights in September 2014 and loved it. Location - excellent, just across from San Marco via the Accademia Bridge. It is in a quiet suburban setting a short walk from the Zattere waterfront which is lovely in the late afternoon. Room - very comfortable, we had windows to the street and to the garden. Some... This is exactly what one would expect from a bed and breakfast stay -- a friendly atmosphere and the sense of being in a home. Francesco is very friendly and accommodating. He cooks a hearty breakfast himself, and the kitchen is also available at night for tea or a small snack. Given the time change, I was getting hungry in... More

We spent two nights in this B&B in Venice. When we arrived following a train journey from Florence, we were unable to access the B&B as nobody was at home. After about 15 minutes, I found Francesco’s number and my partner gave him a call. Francesco said he had contacted us by various methods to inform us that he had... More

Me & my friend stayed in Venice for 6 nights at Dorsoduro 461 hoping to get a true venetian experience and this was exactly what we got. Francesco couldn't have been a better host, he helped with directions, things to do and see and the breakfast was delicious! The location of the B&B is perfect, very near the Zattere, where... More

Francesco was the perfect host: helping with luggage, preparing breakfasts to order, providing helpful directions and suggestions and generally looking after our every wish and need. The rooms, we stayed in two during the week of our visit, were comfortable and quiet with ample space. Carnival is a busy time in Venice and we thoroughly enjoyed our secluded part of... More

My wife & I stayed at the B&B on September 14th & 15th. Francesco was a great host and the location was perfect. It was our first trip to Italy and our first 2 nights. Staying in a neighborhood location with children playing outside just added to the experience. It was a short walk to the Guggenheim and i would... More

I stayed at this delightful BnB in Oct 2011....after travelling around Italy and having just come from from a dreadful hotel in Florence I was sceptical about what I was going to find at Dorsoduro 461....after the initial WOW Im in Venice moment. I took off, map in hand to find 461....the map was easy to follow....may have been a... More

We stayed two nights at this B & B while visiting Venice. Just 5 minutes from the Guggenheim, this is a quiet spot away from the hustle and noise of other Venice areas. It really felt like we were in a neighborhood of "real" people- kids playing soccer, a man shooting hoops, two women talking across the way from their... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
