I have now stayed with Santa Croce and have never been disappointed with the accommodation we end up at. This time we were near the Billa supermarket on the main shopping street. Great room, spacious bathroom and the plus side was a view of a peaceful canal. Having the fridge and kettle in the room was a real bonus. There... More

Firstly, Residenza Santa Croce isn't a single hostel. Its got rooms all over Venice (some near the St Mark's square and some close to the train station). So make sure you ask in advance which location your room is in. The check-in office is very close to the train station so confirm in advance where you would be staying. Like... More

We stayed for two nights in late May with my partner. The place has quite a mixed rep, but our experience was quite good. The check-in office is easy to find, just a short walk from the Venezia Santa Lucia train station. Our apartment was located at Fondamente Dei Fiori in the Cannaregio district. It's a nice neighbourhood especially if... More

After checking in at their offices near the bus station I had to walk about half hour to to my room on Fondamente Dei Fiori. The building was badly in need of renovation and upgrading. The room was basis and in need of a face lift, but it looked like it was clean with fresh sheets and towels so I... More

Funny how the hostel is getting positive reviews, because my friend and I certainly did not enjoy our 3-night stay here, and I have a great tolerance threshold for hostels! Santa Croce is located very near to the supermart & bus and train stations. My 6-bed room was clean and fine with quite a large bathroom. But the good points... More

Navigation to this place is EASY. Real near to train and bus station and vaporetto station. Stayed in dorm. Clean and comfortable. SAFE. Location is good, a good walk to Rialto or S Marco frm here. Only downside is: no power point at beds, so inconvenient to charge hp and cameras etc. they have 3-4 overall to share in dorm,... More

It's quite cheap for Venice. Really clean. VERY NEAR TO THE TRAIN AND BUS STATION Our private bathroom was not in room, but in front closed with a key. A bit uncomfortable. Everything in Venice is nearby, so it's not very far from Piazza San Marco.

I stayed with my family at Residenza Santa Croce last July 2012. I booked in advance, and it costed us 392 euros, for 4 people, for 3 nights, what is a very good price for Venice. You have to know that Venice (and other Italian touristic cities) has a tax, of 2 euros per person per night, that you have... More

We arrived in Venice after midnight and was worried about how we would find this hostel. It was very easy and was 4-5 minutes walk from the central bus station and 5-6 mins across the bridge from the train station. The woman on the check in desk was very helpful and gave us tips on places to eat, shop and... More

I used this hostel to accomodate a group of 8. The staff in the hostel were very friendly and accomodating to our needs. The hostel itself is vey clean and location is great, near the bus and train station. I would certainly recommend this to anyone staying in Venice.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
