Stayed here for 3 nights. There were 4 of us. We had 2 double rooms. The rooms were very spacious with Murano chandeliers. Bed was super comfortable. The bathroom & shower was nice. We had a nice breakfast each morning. The owners were great & gave us suggestions of where to eat. Overall we would stay here again. This B... More

My husband and I spent 5 nights at this very comfortable guesthouse in a wonderful neighborhood. Georgia, the owner, is a very committed young woman who did her very best to make our stay such a memorable experience. Our room was spacious, very clean, and exceedingly quiet. Georgia happily accommodated requests for breakfast, and she and her charming boyfriend gave... More

We stayed at this immaculate, charming, B&B Oct 6th and 7th, 2014. It is a short walk from the train station at S. Lucia and is the perfect place to return to after a busy day touring Venice. A beautifully restored Venice home, Antico Portego is located on a quiet street. Antiques and ceiling frescos give this location a unique... More

We are in in Venice for the fifth time, one friend from Tuscany recommend us this wonderful antique hotel in which you will feel the true and original Venice out of the tourist maps. This antique hotel is managed by one extraordinary family, they helped us to see the hidden corners of Venice, talked us about everything and we felt... More

A great find in Venice. Quiet location away from the madding crowds. Great value and wonderful hospitality. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast after staying many times in Venice. Good restaurants close by and you can get around Venice easily on the vaporetto. The family were hospitable and helpful. Comfortable beds, extremely clean. I will certainly stay there again!... Excellent location for arriving travelers - about a ten minute walk from the main train station at Santa Lucia and a couple minutes further for Piazzale Roma where buses from the airport arrive. I was pleased that my room was ready when I arrived from the airport at noon. It's about a five minutes from the #1 Vaporetto (water bus)... More

Clean, beautifully restored, friendly hosts. As said in other reviews, breakfast is limited, so if a hearty breakfast is important you won't get it here. Very limited English spoken so if you are not adventurous or pre-organized with everything, May not be place for you. Not far from train station, quiet street right off main area, so a great location.... More

Stayed here with my husband mid April 2013. The booking was made very efficiently via email, we had to change our dates twice and that did not inconvenience the owner. Their only request was that we secure our booking with a 100 Euros deposit, which we did. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by the daughter of the house, Giorgia,... More

We stayed one night at Antico Portego [www.bbanticoportego.com] in early September at the beginning of a Peregrine Adventures Tour. It’s relatively easy to reach using the #1 Vaporetto [water bus]. Board just outside Venice’s main train station [Venezia SL] & get off at the 2nd stop [San Marcuola] on the Grand Canal; then it’s a 5-7 minutes walk. It is... More

Located in Cannaregio which proved to be an excellent location as the area is quite affordable compared to area around St Marks. Lots of nice restaurants and shops and the market nearby. The hotel has very ornate rooms, each is different. We were in the Apollo room which overlooks the road outside. Not at all noisy and very spacious and... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
