This is a brilliant little hotel - we stayed for 3 nights and the room was comfortable and clean, the hotel was near a boat stop but also within walking distance of the city centre. It's got some great shops and restaurants nearby too. My only advice would be to look it up on a map before you go as... More

As two teenage, female university students coming to Europe for the first time, feeling safe is a huge priority for us. Upon checking in, we were provided with any information we required and this did not discontinue for the length of our stay- the manager provided us with ferry times, recommendations and directions whenever we required them. The rooms were... More

The room was a good size and had huge windows opening onto the canal. There was a bench along the window end of the room with low stools looking over the canal. The canal traffic was mostly water taxis and tradesmens boats but into the evening there were gondolas and locals in small boats mooring across the canal at he... More

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel, decor was pleasant and modern and the room was very clean. Not exactly like the photo on the site but very close. Close to everything including the train station, a 15 minute walk to St. Marks square. Shopping street around the corner 2 mins away. Below average breakfast which we were not advised was... More

The hotel is not easy to find and the approach through a narrow back street is disconcerting but the staff were friendly and efficient and the room was modern and clean. There are no facities and a basic reception but a buffet breakfast was available at reasonald cost that was well stocked. The location in Canal Regio is a little... More

Firstly I would like to mention the location....this hotel is certainly difficult to find, get to the 'Billa Supermarket' and 'Old Wild West Bar'....and walk round the back....Al Canal Regio Hotel Venice Cannaregio 3632 A, 932 Santa Croce, Venice, 30122. Marco greeted us and was very helpful and informative, gave us information and maps, showed us to our room which... More

Hotels in Venice are generally quite expensive, but this one offers a more affordable price (for hotels with private bathrooms). It is very close to a Vaporeto station and also at a walking distance to the station of the boat which takes you to the airport, so this quite compensates the fact it is not as close to the main... A potentially wonderful hotel but now very tired, shabby and certainly not as clean and inviting as it should be, or looks on the website. We had room 4 which also has a mezzanine level with a sofa bed which one of our party slept on. We found the rooms (especially the bathroom) to be quite grubby. The toilet seat... More

Stayed for 3 nights. Over prized, difficult to locate, as the name resembles the region, becomes difficult for people to guide you where you are heading. Booked this hotel as we wanted to experience Venice as the locals and stay on the island. The opposite building is under construction causing up a lot of mess in getting to the hotel... More

Already in Europe vacationing, we unfortunately had our existing booking at another hotel cancelled by booking.com - in a last minute dash to find somewhere we stumbled upon this hotels site and quickly booked, unsure of what to expect as it had been our wish to stay upon the grand canal. Upon arriving we were very happily surprised! This hotel... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
