I stayed in Altramonto Dorato with my mom for 2 nights we loved the place. First of all Nicola, the host, was very helpful he met us at the boat station and he took us to the department. The location is excellent just one bridge from the department and that bridge has handicapped ramp so is really easy to move... More

I stayed here with my 2 kids in a lovely room overlooking the lagoon. Short walk to the action, but far enough away to feel like a more local experience. Wonderful host, very attentive & helpful. I would happily recommend this B&B to anyone.

Stayed at Al Tramonto Dorato for 4 nights during last week of February. Simple and clean B&B, felt homely. Could not have asked for better location. Nicola is very helpful and made my stay comfortable. He came to pick me up at ARSENALE waterbus stop and was very hospitable. Was able to use refrigerator in the living room and this... More

I looked long and hard at the many places to stay for our first wedding anniversary in Venice. The prices of so many were just too much, this place was perfect for us though. A quiet guesthouse up some stairs at the quieter end of the main canal. The water bus from the airport dropped us off 50m from the... More

My husband & I stayed here our last night in Venice. We only wished we booked it for the entire trip. Nicola was the most hospitable host we have had on our travels. Room & bathroom was nice & clean. Breakfast was more than we could ask for. We highly recommend & will definitely stay here in the future.

Fantasic view and location. Breathtaking view across the lagoon from the balcony and our room. San Mark's square just a 5 minute stroll. Great for the waterbus, being 'up route' from the busiest stations meant you had a better chance of a seat. Nicola was a great host, very helpful and a good breakfast. If you arrive by the airport... We were met at the water bus station by our host Nicola who was just great. A very friendly and likeable man who helped with all our questions and went out of his way to make us feel at home. The walk was only five minutes to our accommodation. Inside you go to a lovely breakfast and lounge area. This... More

We had stayed there for 4 nights in June: Location: Quite far away from the Venice S L train station and we need to take a 50-mins waterboat to get there. (Later the host, Nicola told me to take another route with shorter time, around 30 mins) Luckily It's close to the waterboat station with 5 mins walk. It's also... More

The B&B host, Nicola, was great! He waited for us at the boat terminal and carried my luggage to the B&B. He even hung my laundry out to dry!! He recommended some great places to eat and a couple of restaurants were 5 minutes away and were wonderful. The B&B was 2 minutes away form the boat that takes you... More

My family of 5 and I stayed with Nicola for several nights. It was quite lovely. He was waiting for us when we arrived at the dock! He is so very friendly and helpful. He gave us great recommendations for places to eat not frequented by so many tourists and helped us with water taxi reservations and so much more.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
