This is definitely the backpacker haven! Super clean, close to the train station and right dead centre in the middle of venice making it extremely easy to get by. Definitely good value for money, and the staff are extremely friendly... Tatiana in particular was a great host and incredible friendly... She also has great taste in music for that lazy... More

It is value for money, especially since it is located at St Lucia itself. However, do note that Venice is really a maze, and we got lost trying to find the hostel even though we followed the instructions closely. It is mostly clean and we felt safe in the hostel. The rest of the hostel guests are friendly and willing... More

Perfect location buttttt! No wifi, not very clean.( they definitely need a maid at least once a day to clean floors and bathrooms) there was no wifi for the 4 days! We were there. Ridiculous! Kept saying it will get fixed "tomorrow". Want you to pay in cash instead of using credit card cause "apparently" the machine won't work without... More

Firstly, the most striking thing about L'Imbarcadero is the location - right on the Grand Canal with an amazing view of the Chiesa di San Geremia from the front bedroom. It is really close to the train station, and there is a water bus stop right outside, but it is a little far from landmarks such as the Rialto Bridge... More

The room we stayed in was lovely! Very clean and spacious so you felt very at home. The en suites were unbelievable for the price! Finding it was a tad difficult but you get to witness Venice whilst searching which isn't a bad thing at all! Would definitely recommend this to anyone backpacking or wanting to go on a budget... Today is my birthday and I woke up looking out my window at the Grand Canal! The staff is super chill and willing to have a chat. Everyone I've met staying in the hostel are cool and just having a good time. This is my second hostel experience and after my first one last weekend I was t sure if... More

Really lovely little hostel. Rooms were clean and quite well made up, breakfast was provided (basic packaged toasts, cheese, fruit, standard fare), friendly staff, and quite close to the station. When I arrived very very late (1am!) because my train came in 3 hours late they were kind enough to let me in and didn't even charge me a late... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
