I really enjoyed staying at the L'Imbarcadero for 3 nights. The decor is a bit outdated but the hostel is clean and comfortable. They have single beds which are comfortable. I loved the fact they didn't have bunk beds. It is a short walk to the train station and it is an easy to walk to the St Mark's Square.... More

Hostel is cheap and the owner is very helpful. Rooms are exactly what they show in the pictures. It's a good place to stay if you are traveling alone because then you can make friends in the shared room. During my stay, all the people in the room were from different countries and I enjoyed my stay. They have free... More

The bathrooms might need a little bit of attention in the close future but the hostel is still very clean and the staff is always welcoming. The location is perfect. I never had to walk for longer than 10 min to reach anything in the city and there is a lovely real venetian restaurant just around the corner. Very quiet... More

A beautiful small hostel where you do not have be live in bunk beds. They give you a regular room with 4 or 5 beds. They are comfortable clean actual normal beds and pillows you will see the ceiling and the whole room view and feel like home :) Very reasonable prices for Venice accomodation. 5 bedroom had a canal... I stayed for two nights. First, the location is very good. It's very close from the Train Station and Bus Station. It is very easy to get lost for new comers in Venice. There is a Water Bus Station is right next to the hostel too. Second, beds condtions are not really good but clean. Bedding stuff are not very... More

Venice was my 1st stop in my Italy trip. Was doing a solo trip for the 1st time. Accommodation in Venice like most other things is very expensive. Chose to stay in this hostel because of its price and location. The hostel is situated right along the grand Canal - a 10 min walking distance from Piazzale Roma where you... More

Perfect location near the station, our room overlooked the canal. Staff were really helpful on arrival. However, the hostel rooms were basic and did not have a lock to the door so we had lock everything away in lockers (the hostel did provide a padlock). There were only two bathrooms in the hostel with both shower and toilet in the... More

I was supposed to stay at this hostel for 2 nights but my credit card got stolen, so I had to stay there until my card company sent me a new one. The staff were incredibly nice about the fact that I couldn't pay and let me stay as long as I needed. Tatiana works in the mornings and she... More

This is definitely the backpacker haven! Super clean, close to the train station and right dead centre in the middle of venice making it extremely easy to get by. Definitely good value for money, and the staff are extremely friendly... Tatiana in particular was a great host and incredible friendly... She also has great taste in music for that lazy... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
