I was a bit scared about the reviews of this hotel but i decided to book anyway and i don't regret it! The location was excellent (next to the train station and strada nova), the staff was very helpful and friendly (thank you so much Leonardo for your useful tips!!) and the room was good for the price we paid.... After reading some reviews I was nervous to stay at this hotel, but seriously have no fear, yes it's a pretty basic hotel, but who goes to Venice to spend their time in the hotel? The beds were comfortable, showers were warm and staff were friendly. It's everything you need! People these days are far too stuck up. Considering how... More

The hotel is very well located near the train station Santa Lucia - about 5-7 minute walk straight down the street without having to overcome steps and bridges. Situated on the Grand Canal, and there are a lot of cafes, restaurants and shops. Within walking distance there are three supermarkets. You need to climb the steep stairs inside the building... Let us first get the positives out of the way- the location is excellent, right on a canal, 5-7 minutes walk from the train station and 12-15 minutes walk from Piazzale Roma (though walking with luggage on Venice's cobbled streets, while navigating humongous crowds, and crossing bridges, is one of the most harrowing experiences you can have). The area around... More

We loved our stay at the Hotel Marte & Biasin on the canal in Venice! It was off the beaten path of major tourist area, yet right on the canal next to water bus stop and water taxis. The hotel has two separate buildings on each side of the canal and we stayed in the building across from the main... More

I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews on Hotel Marte as to what it would be like. The Hotel is in a good location. An easy walk from the station and close to a Vappereto stop, which is on the Airport line. The hotel is basic, but clean. Good for a place to stay if you... More

The room was clean but very basic for a family room. The wifi was not avaiable in all the rooms. No lift and you have to fo ong way up through the stairs. Not at all touristic to climb so many stairs with luggage. The location was good.

We were walking past and saw two staff bump into each other and drop a basket of bread. The head waiter pick up the bread and put it back in the basket. We watched for a minute and when he thought we had gone he served it to some customers. Needless to say we found somewhere else for dinner.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
