This is a boutique hotel. Lovely interiors, clean and comfortable. A quiet place, away from the crowd and noise of the Venice crowd yet a short walk to the stations for the cruise on the canal. This hotel has a courtyard giving it an air of detachment from the usual routes that tourists take to go around lovely Venice. Best... More

We just sent 3 nights there and we feel really bad. Yes, the prize is cheap and the room condition is old. The bad is flapping…and the shower water is so slow. The elder lanlady continued to ask me paying the room fee from first day…but I will stay 3 nights, pls. The worse thing was that the staff cheated... More

Old hotel, old facilities and poor service by even more old staffs ..(no offense, but the lady at the counter forgot where she put the room key , and it ended up with 30 minites delayed check-in and i couldn't got my room key even after check-in ...)

Been there for 4 days for Venice carnival and picked this hotel because of the fair price. Room is not bad with one single and one double bed for 3 of us, however it is facing one of the bridges so even in late night it's still very noisy. The wood door of the balcony can't be fixed and those... More

We are very grateful to the staff of the hotel for our wonderful New Year stay in Venezia! Special thanks to Mariana and Elmi! Your help is very hard to overestimate! Dear potential customers! Don’t hesitate to choose this hotel for your future trips. It is perfectly located: very close to the logistic points and to the centre of the... More

Restaurant: Very very disappointing service. Firstly some of the drinks didn't arrive and we had to re-order. Then one of our meals was forgotten completely and when we complained the waiter tried to tell us it was our fault and we hadn't ordered correctly (how hard is it to order a pizza?) The pizza finally appeared but at the end... More

My wife and I had a previous reservation at Hotel Bernardi... Unfortunately due to illness by a hotel guest our reservation was cancelled and were given the opportunity to stay at Hotel Marte on a busy weekend... It is very basic at a reasonable price for Venice... Very good location as it is 5 minutes away from train station... Staff... More

If you want a decent meal with decent service whilst in Venice avoid this dump at all costs. The standard of customer service at this restaurant is the worst I have ever had the mis-fortune to experience anywhere in the world. We were charged €96 for two omelettes and two chicken legs with four glasses of cheap and nasty house... More

After reading some of the previous comments on this hotel, I was a bit reluctant to choose to stay at the Marte. However the price was ideal and we decided to give it a try. I should say, that our stay was surprisingly good and pleasant!! Ok, If you have an issue with three flights of stairs then yes it's... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
