cons: - breakfast is not good with very limited selection. The only thing I could eat is cereals and the canned peach - wifi connection is very intermittent. I discovered the technique of forgetting the network (if you're using an iphone) then connect again in the wifi in order for the internet to work again. Though this will only last... More

Last week I booked this hotel on booking.com and while I was out on another vacation this hotel sent me an email asking me to charge my credit card and confirming I will be in the room. Apparently I didn't answer them fast enough (sorry I don't check my email regularly enough while I am skiing) and two days later... More

Hotel caneva for sure is not the poshest hotel in venice, but comparing its price and the service thwy give its really good! very good location, very close to rialto even if you dont have a toilet and bathroon in your room - you can find enough of them on the same floor rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. for... Hotel was in a really nice location, tucked away behind a church on a T-junction of canals. All staff were friendly and helpful. We asked if we could have a room overlooking the canal, and were told it was 20 Euros extra compared to the room we'd booked. The room was good-sized and a pleasant room. When we opened our... More

Booked a room at the Hotel Caneva the day of our arrival in Venezia and received a twin room overlooking the canal for €225 for 3 nights. Its a 1 star hotel which seems a little unfair, i think the rating comes from the distinctly hostel-vibe: shared bathrooms, Wifi and lounge areas. The location is superb. 5 minute walk to... More

People are very nice and helpful!!! The view is amazing of canal! I stay here for 3 days and the shared bathroom is kept clean always! Location is between San Marco and Rialto, the most famous attractions in Venice:o) and you can see the gorgeous view of canal coz you sleep on it...

It was ideal for us. Very simple hotel...more like the feel of a hostel in it's simplicity. Breakfast was better than I thought. We had a great view if the canal from our room. I felt like i was stepping back in time with having a physical room key that you give to the front desk when you leave. GREAT... More

The hotel is very centrally located (near the Rialto water bus stop). Paper-thin walls made us wake up tired each morning after a poor night's rest: even with earplugs the conversations outside our room were loud. Friendly service and reasonable breakfast.

We were touring Italy on a low budget and wanted to end our travels in Venice (not known to be cheap and cheerful). We booked in at the Caneva and once we got off the waterboat at the Rialto it was only one minute walk away! Location was brilliant! A few minutes from the Rialto Bridge and a few more... More

I stayed at the Caneva, in Venice, for three nights in September 2011. It's fair to say I've never paid so much for so little: the bathroom was streaked with rust and various other stains, the wardrobe had literally collapsed on to its side and the doors had fallen off, and the air conditioning broke down for two days. The... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
