No air conditioner, no mosquito netting, no wifi, no soap, and very noisy. Location is ok, but in Venice location is ok everywhere. The apartment was big and old, not dirty, there were some kitchen accesories to use, including a fridge. Outside the windows of the apartment we had street lights, so in the night the rooms are very bright,... More

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

The apartment had no air conditioning when it was 28 degrees in the night, very hard to sleep. It had not even the basic things as soap, enough toilet paper or washing liquid in the kitchen so it was an extra expense and very hard to get in Venice. The shower was clugged and the curtain short so all the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
