Ca Barba - quintessentially Venetian. Charming, convenient, relaxing, delicious food... Alessandro was a great host. We had a rather unpleasant entry into Venice by train (parked across the water) and failed to validate our train tickets, resulting in a fine. We also were lost in Venice (big surprise!) and initially could not reach Alessandro. However, once we hopped on the... More

Our family of 5 stayed at the Ca' Barba apartment in July 2014. Location was excellent (7 minutes from train station) and Alessandro was a perfect Host. He met us close to the train station, guided us to the apartment and then gave us helpful hints for our stay. I'd highly recommend this place to all of my friends and... More

We stayed here for 3 nights, we were 2 couples but room for more. Very spacious and well equipped including wi-fi and a nini pool table! In an excellent location, it is near some great restaurants and bars not too near the really busy parts but not too far away either. It snowed whilst we were there and the appartment... More

I booked this apartment for 3 nights for a mixed group of 6 dragonboater paddlers participating in the 2012 Vogalonga event. It is conveniently located in walking distance to the train station, coach station, and the Rialto Bridge. The apartment had a spacious living room for our group to socialise - it felt really large as you entered, and had... More

Alessandro was absolutely all we could have hoped for as he provided exactly what we needed and was available to be called upon s hould the need arise, w hich it didn't. All a good sign since that meant there were no problems at all. We appreciated the cleanliness, spaciousness, and character of the apartment and especially the aroma of... More

We stayed at the Ca' Barba B&B for seven nights in December 2011. My husband became ill and we were not able to travel on to Rome, as we planned, so Alessandro, the B&B owner, rented us this three-bedroom apartment in Dorsoduro. The apartment was huge, beautiful, and extremely clean, large enough for five people (six if one person sleeps... More

We stayed 3 nights in apartment Ca' Barba. Alessandro was attentive upon our arrival, but we did not see him again after that first day. But, we had his phone number if we needed him. The apartment is about a 20 minute walk from the train/bus station and is in the Dorsoduro District, central to everything. It is a very... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
