We rented the Ca Cortigiane apartment in Santa Croce for four nights in mid-May. The apartment is actually a bit larger than it appears in the photos, with the small kitchen and bath at one end of the hallway and the living and sleeping area at the other. Though we only used the double bed in the raised sleeping area,... More

The studio apt Ca Cortigiane at 1662 S. Croce was excellent. After a slight mixup for our first night of booking, Rosanna and Laura were extremely kind and accommodating to resolve the issue. In addition, they both provided great help and tips for what to see and where to eat and avoid! All of their recommendations were great. The apt... More

My elderly parents and I spent a wonderful week in the Regina d'Oriente apartment of Ca' Cortigiane which is just 5 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge. It is located on the second floor (3 steep flights of steps - 50 steps in total which were rather a challenge for my parents who are in their mid 80s!!), but once... More

This apartment gives the visitor the feeling of genuinely normal Venetian life. It is 5 minutes walk from the S. Stae vaporetto. Just outside it are restaurants, a panificio, and a square where Venetians stroll, play, walk their dogs, do their shopping (at the little supermarket) and sip a drink at one of several cafe bars. Accessed through a locked... More

We stayed at "Le Nuvole" apartment for 4 days. I highly recommend this place, both for the location (Giudecca Island) and for the apartment. The apartment is located at 100m from the ferry stop line n.2, that takes you directly to St. Mark's square in 10 minutes. The island has other facilities like restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The owners Francesca... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
