Venice is expensive to stay, so we opted for something 3-4 stars and our travel agent found this... Would not stay again - prefer to fork out more money so that I don't end up with mosquito bites all over me. Fine to locate - they gave good directions. We arrived and the door to reception was wide open but... More

I was so utterly disappointed! The bed was rock hard - we were actually sleeping on a box spring, not even a mattress and it was 2 twin beds pushed together, not a double/queen we requested. We had the dreaded room at the end of the dark alley - very scary at night as there is no light. Desk is... More

Let me start by saying i have been traveling for years and have never written a review. I am doing so now to hopefully prevent anyone from having to experience this hotel. It was the absolute worst place and experience my sister and I have ever had. To start, despite 3 emails to the owner, we were not given any... More

Quaint little 10 room B & B type place located just 5 minutes walk from San Marco Square and , vaporettos. Building from the 1500's. Nice quiet neighborhood but close to everything. Room was a little dated but very clean/functional and the bathroom was newly renovated and very modern. Clean, quiet. Cute courtyard with daily European breakfast included. Very helpful... More

We arrived around 7pm and were greeted with an intercom and no face or person. Hardly welcoming. We were told to find our key on the bench which we did and then were told by intercom to go outside and walk down the alley to the door at the end. When we opened our room what a disappointment. We nearly... More

A bit of a challenge to find, fortunately I had read previous reviews that warned of a buzzer and mystery voice and not to expect any service. All true. Our keys were on the front counter. My husband and I had a lovely room on the 2nd floor, our girls had the room on the 1st floor which was not... More

Unfortunately we had already left on holiday before the previous comments were posted. Room 30 is exactly as described. When we eventually found the place there was the buzzer and the disemdodied voice telling us to wait, pleasant lady came but she didn't speak one word of English. Air conditioning, that we couldn't work, spewing black bits all over the... More

There were so many terrible things about this accommodation that I had to start writing a list! I really want travellers to know about our experience, and hopefully save someone else from a disappointing stay. I hope the owner also reads this, and thinks about seriously improving room 30 and the overall service provided at this accommodation. Whether you call... More

Arranged for my daughter to stay in this hotel, with travelling companion for her 18th birthday. She loved the place. Convenient yet quiet. Particularly liked the breakfast arrangement in the courtyard. I contacted the hotel staff to arrange a birthday cake etc. as a 'surprise'. They were extremely helpful and well organised and presented the chocolate cake at breakfast.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
