We spent ten days in Venice staying at the Alloggi Serena. The room was comfortable with an enormous bed and reasonable storage space. our private bathroom was just across the corridor and the small size of the shower was the only bad point. We had our substantial continental breakfast served to us by the very pleasant and helpful maid every... More

This hotel is as good as it gets for low budget travellers. Alloggi Serena is not a fancy hotel, it is more of a family run bed and breakfast. The prices are fantastic and my room was extremely clean and quiet. When I first arrived, I had some trouble finding the hotel because Venice is confusing and there is only... More

Well it's located 10 minutes walk to railway station, 30 min to San Marco and 5 min to water taxi vaporetto stop. Very convenient location, nice woman running the hotel. We've booked a room for three but it was upgraded for really big two level room on third floor. The hotel is situated in historic part of Venice but not... More

I had chosen this Hotel after researching on Tripadvisor. Though it is 5 mints walk away from the railway and bus terminals, the Venice lane can be confusing and will take considerably more time to locate. We were given an apartment on the ground floor which had a small living room, kitchen and a large bedroom. The room had AC,... More

We chose this small B & B because it appeared to be in quite a central location and within easy reach of the bus station and everywhere we wanted to visit - and the location was just perfect. We stayed for 4 nights in the middle of September and on arrival were warmly greeted and had been given a larger... More

Not a family run hotel but one that is run by a single woman... And she is perfect ... Helpful even with a bare minimum command over the English and extremely caring. She even upgraded our double room as there were better ones available . Very clean and fabulous location, close to the water taxi port. The 2 bedroom suite... More

Had a bedroom for three for 3 nights in August. Very clean nice accommodation with extremely friendly hosts. Breakfast was varied every morning with bread, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, albeit you have to book a time when the lodgings are full as there are only two tables. They were good enough to look after our luggage all day on our last... More

This B&B is located very closely to the train station (5 min. walking) and bus station (10 min. walking). Also the water taxi stop Riva di Biasio is only 2 min. walking distance. The couple Sergio and Marcella are very nice, friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, prepared and served by Marcella in their little tiny kitchen. Also... More

I have booked the hotel via booking. I believe that it is my first time to use my Ipad to book and unfortunately and mistakely I choose the none refundable room rate. I try to communicate with the owner by email, but no response at all. Now it is still 6 weeks before my travelling day. I hope that I... More

We decided last minute to go to Venice. Since we have a limited budget, we booked this B&B. Location is perfect!!! At a walking distance from Piazzale Roma where the shuttle bus stopped. Location also makes it easy to use the Vaporette. It is in a quiet street but not far from the busy streets. There were supermarkets nearby which... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
