Venice - a city for notoriously expensive accommodation - has this little gem of a hotel. A boutique hotel, Residenza Ae Ostreghe is part of Locanda da Spada (where you check in and have breakfast). It's located two short blocks away from St Marks Square and a short walk from the nearest vaparetto (ferry) stop. Service by all the staff... More

The shabby entry to the hotel is in contrast to the spotlessly clean, spacious room which was comfortable and inviting. It was decorated in typical ornate Venetian style, Murano glass chandelier, gilt patterned panels and furniture, with a modern bathroom and spa bath. The location is excellent, 5 minutes walk to St Mark' s Square and many attractions. The breakfast... More

Expensive, but good, place located in the heart of Venice - very close to Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square), Accademia, Santa Maria del Salute, etc. You have direct connectivity to both the airport (Alilaguna's Linea Arancio) and the Santa Lucia railway station via the Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal, which is very close to... This property is a sister-property of Locanda del Spada. Once you get off the vaperetto stop - Giglio, you need to collect the key from Spada (quite close-by to the vaperetto stop) and you will be taken to this property. The properties not very far from each other - probably about 100 metre distance. There is no lift in this... More

As with everything it's hard to find at first. Best to get off at Vaporetto stop 'Giglio' & walk a few metres up the alley to Locanda della Spada where you check in & are given the key. Then a staff member can walk with you to Residenza. No lift but room is clean & quiet. Breakfast at Locanda is... More

We had a wonderful four nights here. The location was very close to everything which made it perfect to stop by for toilet breaks or just to freshen up. The breakfast was the best and we ate so much that we could skip lunch...not wine. For more information on this hotel and others we stayed while in Italy for a... More

Having chosen this from a Trip Advisor research I had no regrets spending two nights in what seemed to be cozy and convenient area, close to San Marco square, and very clean spacious room with a fantastic breakfast (you have to walk 75 meters to main hotel for that). the property is an annex to La Sponda hotel which is... Loved how our building was tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy strips but was still so close to major sites as well as a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. Our room was lovely and spacious with Venetian style furniture and Murano glass chandelier and wall sconces. It was a delightful short walk from our building... More

you need to know in advance: this is the ANNEX of another hotel, locanda la spada, which is RIGHT off the giglio vaporetto stop on line 1. la spada is nice and new. you check in there then they take you to ae ostreghe, about 5 minutes walk away. you need someone to take you, otherwise you'd never find it.... Nice, quite and elegant (all furniture is Venetian style) this small residence is out of the crowd even if only 10 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. It is situated in an ancient building and its apartments offer all commodities at a very affordable price. Absolutely recommended.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
