The hotel is located in an area about 20-25 minutes walking from the main attractions of Venice. However, it is a very pleasant area, with a very nice park in front, where many locals live and hide themselves from tourists. It is another view from the city. It is great the walk by the shore until Saint Mark's Basilica! That... More

Room was small but very well kempt- looked to have been recently refurbished. Air con was fine- centrally controlled with the option of altering it by a few degrees. Central Venice was a 25 minute walk away- very pleasant, along the Riva, alternatively you can take the evaporator. St'Elena stop is two minutes away and is on all the main... More

This Hotel is actually in a residential area of Venice which is very quiet and relaxing. The hotel itself is very modern with an excellent restaurant on site. We watched the locals go about their daily business from the park just steps away from the hotel. You are just a short water taxi ride away from the center of Venice... More

So the room was rather oddly equipped - that is to say, no drawers and no place in the bathroom to put anything but apart from that, it was pleasant and clean - plentiful breakfast buffet - badly designed with lots of uncomfortable chairs all lined up together - odd, as if it were still being worked out. service was... Dear Leslie, thank you for reviewing our BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant’Elena on TripAdvisor. Your opinion is very important for us. Even if our hotel was an ancient convent (the building has been refurbished with special attention given to the preservation of the original structure), its interiors are stylish and contemporary but mixed with a traditional accent. Perhaps sometimes the... More

There are many good things about this hotel: the comfortable rooms, the excellent breakfast, the inner garden, the off the tourist track location close to the Bienniale. But at the same time many other things that shouldn't belong to a four star hotel: the below average restaurant, the often inattentive service and many more small details detracting from the overall... We had a lovely couple of nights in this hotel. We were very impressed with the food - both the breakfast and the dinner! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and is set slightly away from the tourist hub which resulted in it being a perfect location - not too close and not too far!

This hotel was about a 25-30 minute walk and 10 minute vaporetto ride from Piazza San Marco. It is in a very peaceful, quiet location near a park where mostly locals live. Being able to escape all the noise and mess, and still be able to stay on the main island was a definite pro. It is great for a... More

We stayed here two days in early July and couldn't have been happier with the hotel. It was a short vaporetta ride to San Marco and other sights, but totally secluded from the tourists. The only real challenge was getting to the hotel from the train station and from the hotel to the airport, which were both relatively long boat... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
