This hotel is gorgeous, the staff is accommodating and knowledgeable and it is in a perfect location. Its a quiet area with a 20 minute pleasant walk along the water to Venice's center. Breakfast was ample and delicious and they have a lovely garden area that you can eat your breakfast in or just relax in the sun. The rooms... More

This hotel was wonderful. I loved the view of the life of Italy through the shutters and we dried our smalls on the window sill during the day. Away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas and we would walk around the corner in the evening and mingle with the families at the little trattorias, drinking wine or... More

Hotel Sant' Elena is in a quiet location away from the main tourist area which is not an issue because the water buses regularly run to the Sant' Elena stop; the quay is only a 3 minute walk to the hotel. It is the last stop before Lido. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. The buffet breakfast is... More

Clean, friendly, elegant hotel very close to a vaparetto stop, within walking distance of Piazza San Marco and minutes from Lido by boat, but tucked away on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle of cruise ship tourists and souvenir vendors. Nice, ample complimentary breakfast. Lovely courtyard with loungers. Free wifi (when it worked). Friendly, helpful staff.... More

We stayed here for two nights in mid-june with our 10 yrs old daughter. The hotel is really premier. Location: the hotel is far from main attractions may be 20 mins walk but the walk is beautiful along the water. And you will find nice restaurants along a way too. We took the water taxi pass for 3 days so... More

Venice Stayed at this hotel for two nights. Definitely enjoyed our stay here. Although it's located a little further away from the center, its about a 20min water bus ride away or you can walk it. We arrived early at the hotel since we came by train and Christina checked us in early. She was so lovely and helpful. She... More

Although I had tiny single room in this well run hotel.which I understand used to be a monastery it is within walking distance to San Marco Square ( a safe 20 minutes even at night) and an excellent choice for a single traveller. The hotel borders one of the few parks in Venice and is near a vaporetto boat stop.

The hotel is located in an area about 20-25 minutes walking from the main attractions of Venice. However, it is a very pleasant area, with a very nice park in front, where many locals live and hide themselves from tourists. It is another view from the city. It is great the walk by the shore until Saint Mark's Basilica! That... More

Room was small but very well kempt- looked to have been recently refurbished. Air con was fine- centrally controlled with the option of altering it by a few degrees. Central Venice was a 25 minute walk away- very pleasant, along the Riva, alternatively you can take the evaporator. St'Elena stop is two minutes away and is on all the main... More

This Hotel is actually in a residential area of Venice which is very quiet and relaxing. The hotel itself is very modern with an excellent restaurant on site. We watched the locals go about their daily business from the park just steps away from the hotel. You are just a short water taxi ride away from the center of Venice... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
