We spent 4 nights here after having a disastrous check in at the woeful canaletto hotel (where we didn't even spend 1 night!). The helpful staff (Simon was superb) upgraded us to a suite with a view- just sensational. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spacious. The decor was rustic but modern. Breakfast was delicious every morning.... More

We stayed at the Ruzzini Palace for two nights before a cruise. The room we had had a view over the roof tops to St Mark's Square. The room was quirky but charming with open beams and a small sitting area. Arriving to the lobby by water taxi was a real treat and was arranged for by the hotel (for... More

Wow, our room over a canal and from the other end overlooking a piazza. Large room with breathtaking artwork. Breakfast was quality and in a beautiful room. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Value for money in a perfect location.

Despite a slight booking mix up through no fault of the hotel the staff went out of their way to ensure the problem was resolved and at no extra cost to ourselves, in particular Simone and Matteo provided an excellent customer experience. The hotel and our room were all very impressive. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and... More

Dear SocialClub2015, We are very glad that you found the Staff very helpful and that we arranged the small issue of your reservation! Of course, especially on arrival, we rather suggest you to get in touch with the Hotel concierge to obtain directions or info about transfers, since Venice can be “not so easy” for who is not used to!... Great location very close to the most desired tourist sites. Rooms are large and comfortable and the staff is very helpful with luggage, restaurant recommendations and everything else you might need. We took the water taxi direct to the private canal entrance which was a lot of fun.

Recently spent 5 nights at this hotel for a special birthday and firstly I will say that I can not fault the location, its completely perfect for being near the main attractions yet being quiet. The staff are also polite and helpful and the breakfast is nice although nothing special. The hotel itself is small, the bar shuts earlier than... More

Dear Ms. EmmaShadbolt, This is the blackmail we were expecting from you, because we didn’t give the free room upgrade you required! In fact this was not possible/available at last minute…Moreover NOTHING about all the above mentioned “problems”…has been reported at the front desk, when solutions could have been found, but only now by this review. We usually find/arrange solutions... More

We have just returned from a wonderful three nights in Venice. A lovely experience in a beautiful city and a great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a beautiful square and very convenient to all the major sights, even though finding our way back the via the same route was always a challenge, but nothing... More

Our arrival late at night by water taxi was quite magical. The hotel is located in the Campo S Maria Formosa which is off the tourist track but a pleasant ten minute walk to both the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. We stayed in room 306 which is at the rear of the hotel overlooking the canal. The... More

Having visited Venice 3 times before, we were still looking for a quality hotel with decent size room and not at an extortionate price. Think we have found it. Stayed in a junior suite at the Ruzzini Palace superb accommodation, excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. Included in stay was a private visit by water taxi to a glass factory... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
