This hotel is very well placed, a very short walk from Stresa! It sits beside the grandest hotel, probably, on Lake Maggiore. It tries its hardest to keep up and in doing so, it charmed me a little! Initial impressions were good and stayed good. The room was on the second floor with a fabulous view of the lake, it... More

We were two couples staying here for a few days as we explored beautiful Lake Maggiore. We chose a room overlooking the lake, with a small balcony to enjoy the view, Our friends chose a less pricier room facing the rear, but with a large outdoor area. We found the rooms and hotel very clean. Not impressed with the breakfast... More

We embarked on a Riviera holiday having enjoyed Como earlier in the year.If anything Lake Maggiore is prettier, the water journeys on a fine day are pure joy. We are fussy, refined, eaters who dine out around Bray.We seldom stay in hotels for food more than a few days.Amazingly we ate in the hotel every evening, the food was first class. The waiters... Hotel in ideal location for exploring the area and lakes. Very friendly staff and overall good service. Gym facilities disappointing - pool looked lovely but too cold to swim. Lovely roof top terrace. Also excellent bar person (excellent Mojitos!!) and front of house staff!! Overall an enjoyable stay.

Stayed for a week with 5 friends, we had 4 rooms overlooking the lake. Each room was decorated differently which is a nice touch but 3 of the rooms had radiators that were very hot and seemed to be on whether you wanted it on or not the other room was ok. One bedroom had cobwebs which was reported to... More

On our last visit we stayed at one of the bigger, grander hotels. This time, although the hotel was less imposing, the staff were much more friendly and courteous. The owner was there almost every day checking on things and making sure all the flower displays around the hotel were always fresh. The owners family used the hotel at weekends, so... More

Stayed 2 nights in a room overlooking the back of the hotel. The fact that the hotel neon sign was only half working was indicative of the general state of the hotel. Inefficient air conditioning meant the windows needed to stay open at night thus noise became a problem - barking dogs & rubbish trucks. No compendium in the room... More

We stayed on a half board basis through Citalia at the Astoria from 10th to 20th September this year. I had to pay a supplement of over £600 for single occupancy of a double room which I found disappointing. However, our accommodation was good. we had one large double room overlooking the hills with a large balcony which had been... More

We were on a 7 night package holiday with Riviera Travel based at the Astoria Hotel. Check in was efficient and the overall first impression of the public rooms and bedrooms was good. Clean and recently refurbished in Italian style but without the "over the top" appearance of some of the neighbouring 4 star hotels. The Astoria is situated alongside... More

Our welcome was just right - friendly, without being pushy. The room was exactly what we had asked for, with a view of the lake. It was also roomy but not excessively so. It has all the right facilities, including enough hangers, but no tea-making. And the balcony gave us a better view but not of other guests. The restaurant... More
