My wife and I were traveling on a motorbike and we had just dropped down out of torrential rain through France and Switzerland, to glorious sunshine and the beautiful Lake Maggiore. Lake Maggiore is beautiful and in our opinion much nicer than Lake Garda. There are some quaint little towns and the lake is easier to navigate by car.
