We recently stayed for six nights at this small, modest hotel and liked our room and the location and staff. TA reviews helped me to select the perfect room for us -- number 7 on the top floor. This large room gave us the space we like for a longer-than-average stay. It has a view of Lake Como over the... More

stayed two nights, it rained one night, then was 80 degrees the next. very nice hotel above their restaurant ( it was a little noisy), we had a view of the plaza. within waking distance of almost everything. beautiful town! the staff was very friendly! short walk to the ferries to other towns on the lake. would definitely recommend.

We decided to start in Varenna due to Rick Steves recommendation. (Funny, but coincidently, our friends were in San Gimignano the same time as us, and saw Rick Steves, even got a picture with him) We booked this hotel without a lot of research, mainly on the recommendation of another Varenna local. We were very happy with the friendly staff,... More

Stayed for three nights in late Sept, after overnight flight into Milan. Arrived there early afternoon after 1 hour train ride from Milan Central train station. Excellent, comfortable and clean room, with friendly staff. Well prepared restaurant selections and terrific breakfast. Hotel on center town square, and only a few blocks uphill from boat docks. Good location for exploring lake... More

This is one of those places we really hated to leave. Our room, on the top floor facing the plaza, included a small outdoor patio with an open skylight that provided natural light and fresh air. (If you're tall enough, you can peek out for a view of the lake and mountains.) We left the patio door open almost the... More

Despite what Rick Steves says, this place does have views. We paid a little extra for a top floor room with a fantastic pair of large windows that allowed us to watch the ferries come and go. The lift made the ascent easy, the host was very helpful and the included breakfast was the typical Italian bread and pastry collection... More

Stayed in Varenna for 4 nights. Stay here if you want quaint village, no cars, winding paths and the best restaurants on lake Como. Sole is a Lovely hotel with terrific hosts, very friendly and happy to help with any question. Not high end luxury but the village, the hosts and the food make it a wonderful stay. Eat on... More

The hotel is certainly not a luxury property, but the rooms are clean, well-kept, and very comfortable. Our room (#6) was very spacious, as it was outfitted for disabled guests (another nice part was that the hotel was completely accessible, with outfitted bathroom and a lift). The balcony over the square was a nice feature, as we could sit and... More

Two of us spent four nights at this small hotel in the triple room on the top floor, at the back of the hotel. There is a lift. The room was very spacious with a sofa bed at one end. We had two windows with a fabulous view over the lake. There was no noise at all. The room was... More

When I first arrived, I was very hot from dragging my suitcase from the station. The owner, Francesco, greeted me immediately with a smile. We began the check in and he stopped and said, "uno momento" He left and returned with an icy cold glass of sparkling water! Now that was nice. Helped me upstairs with my bag and I... More
