It was our first stay at Il Sole although we have eaten in the restaurant several times and it has always been a favourite. The accommodation, although slightly dated, was clean and more that adequate for a short stay and the location at the centre of Citta Alta is perfect. The breakfast was served in the restaurant and was very... More

Situated in the old town, we only visited the restaurant belonging to the hotel, the restaurant looks small from the outside. Wow it's like the Tardis, it has 3 big eating areas. I dined with my girlfriend, and had the anti-pasta sharer for 2 people. The platter was huge, it would easily do 4 people. The menu is varied, we... More

We were waiting for a late flight from Bergamo after a skiing holiday, so we spent the afternoon in the town. We had lunch in this restaurant which is located in the citta alta, (ie high town/city),and it was a very pleasant experience. After a nice wander around the narrow streets we found the staff polite and quite formal. The... More

IL Sole comment location is excellent but the experience overall was extremely disappointing. When we arrived in the afternoon on a Saturday, the man at the counter was very helpful. The room he showed us to was quite large with a window to a courtyard - seemed ok. Until we saw the dozens of ants walking along the floor and... More

Ideally situated virtually on the beautiful Piazza Vecchia, the room was clean and the staff very helpful. The bathroom was really a cupboard with a shower and loo and the door of the shower came off in our hands! The beds were comfortable but if you are staying for more than a couple of days I suggest you take your... More

A warm welcome as soon as we entered the hotel on the corner of piazza vecchia - fantastic location - right in the centre of the main attraction of Bergamo yet it isn't too busy. The rooms are excellent - proper Italian. I think this hotel is 2 stars but knocks socks off some 5 stars I've stayed in. It's... More

I must first admit that Bergamo is one of my favorite places in Italy! I had not previously stayed at Il Sole, situated on the main street, right next to the Piazza Vecchia - one of the most atmospheric places that I know - especially on a wet evening when all the tourists have departed. The hotel is a traditional... More

This is a typical Albergo - a restaurant with rooms. Not a hotel with a restaurant. Don't get me wrong our room was very large and very clean, if a little out dated, particularly the bathroom, not complaining. The restaurant makes up for everything, the choice, quality and service was tremendous don't eat anywhere else in the area! It's location... More

Location is great, in the middle of the citta Alta, but difficult to access with a car. Fortunately the staff will explain where to park. Hotel is a funny maze, with nice large rooms. Negative points are the bathroom, very small, with poor light, and separated by a thin sliding door from the room. And no airco. Overall we enjoyed our... More
