I feel a bit surprised by all the negative reviews. I stayed with my husband for three nights and did not have any problems at all. On the first night we stayed in Room 5, a private room with bathroom (there is only one room with a bathroom), and we stayed in room 1 for the other two nights, where... More

We had planned to visit cinque terre and used La Spezia as a cheaper home base and to also explore Porto Venere. Del Sole seemed to be the only available option since we booked last minute. The website claims that it is a five minute walk from the station, that is so untrue! You have to wait for the bus... More

Location is very good, owner seems to mean well but the whole set-up with him and his children stuck in a central room makes it feel like you are intruding on a slightly sad and definitely tired and shabby home. The rooms are large but a flimsy door and curtain, and one feels neither secure nor private. Shared bathrooms which... More

This hotel was perfectly fine for what we were looking for - A place to crash! We went to La Spezia so we could spend a day in Cinque Terre (we went to Montorosso which was beautiful) and for our purposes the hotel was perfect. It was close to the train station - A straight shot down the main shopping... More

As soon as we saw the room, we turned around and walked out. I cannot emphasize enough how disgusted I was with the quality at Albergo del Sole Hotel La Spezia. Although the so called hotel is only 1 star, the standard was beyond anything that I have every experienced. My friend and I (we are 2 girls in our... More

Don't stay in Il Sole if you can afford slightly more money. It is about 20 minutes from the train station and it is in the centre of La Spezia, next to restaurants and shops. We stayed and were severely bitten by bed bugs which destroyed the following week of our holiday. Only one shower and toilet to share with... More

I had to cancel my reservation at the last minute (evening of stay) and was not sure if I would be refunded the cost. I was ASSURED by the hotel staff after some discussion that I would NOT be charged however 2 weeks later a charge appeared on my VISA for the hotel that I never stayed in. I e-mailed... More

I stayed here just one night, a stop-over on the way from Rome to France, with the purpose of seeing a little of the renowned Cinque Terre. (La Spezia being the southern gateway). IMO, there would be no other reason to lodge here. It's a basic pensione rather than an 'albergo'. The room was spartan but clean, the walls paper... More

My wife, teen-age daughter and I stayed at the Albergo del Sole for two nights in the latter part of June 2005. The temperature was in the 90's so we had to sleep with the window open - no air-conditioning and no fans. Consequently, the room was HOT and noisy due to traffic, nearby cafes & bars and the conversations... More

The Albergo La Sole in La Spezia was booked on the internet, as we wanted a base to explore the Cinque Terre area. The hotel is located on the first floor of a large old apartment block down an alley in the old town. There are a set of bell pushes for the building and you have to ring the... More
