We have traveled frequently in Italy and always try to spend some time relaxing in Monterosso al Mare at La Spiaggia Hotel. This is a modest, clean, family owned beach hotel, only 20 meters from the Mediterranean sea. Owner Andrea Poggi is Hotel La Spiaggia. He is a gracious host with a life long wealth of knowledge and opinions. He should, for he was born there and his family spans generations of coastal Ligurians. He is an encyclopedia of regional facts and cuisines and, has contacts throughout Italy. He personally turned us on to the best porcini mushroom and truffle restaurant in Italy, if not Europe.
He was always there for us and answered all of our inquiries. If we weren't sure about what and where to do or go, he gave us recommendations. Our stays with Andrea are always fun.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and when you meet Andrea, be sure to ask him his favorite question, "What are you having for lunch today, a turkey sandwich?" I guarantee it... more
