Staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Very outstanding service and the breakfast was wonderful. We stayed a Saturday and a Sunday night. Breakfast on Sunday morning was in the small breakfast room of the James Joyce facility. Because we ate late we were all alone in there with the cheerful attendant who was sweet, friendly and helpful.... More

My wife and I stayed 3 nights (B&B) before going on to Venice. The hotel was small but its location was excellent - right in the centre of the city in the historic quarter. The 'James Joyce Hotel' and the 'Hotel Urban Design' next door appear to be just one hotel. Reception was in the Urban and nobody minded whether... More

Simply appointed but comfortable room, nice shower room (no bath), good continental breakfast including REAL coffee. WiFi worked well. Reception staff very attentive and friendly. Would we go back? Definitely.

The hotel is located a short walk away from the central Piazza Unita’ down a small alleyway (of which most of the buildings appear to be owned by the small hotel group that runs the James Joyce) Slightly bizarre that you need to check-in at the Urban Design hotel, on the opposite side of the alleyway to the James Joyce... Have just stayed overnight in room 501 of this hotel. Very pleasant stay. Comfortable beds, and AC in room. The bathroom was lovely and very powerful shower! Overall a good little hotel highly recommended for a short Trieste break!

The James Joyce shares the personnel and reception with the Urban Design hotel next door. The word Design indicates the priority. Some very serious training is needed for the reception staff who has no clue how to handle a problem. On the other hand, I appreciated the help with my luggage.

This boutique hotel is exactly what a small hidden hotel should be. Named after the Irish writer who lived in Trieste and penned the famous Ulysses it offers the traveler a most excellent location, very comfortable room, and an enjoyable bed and breakfast ambiance somewhat hard to find in such establishments. the staff also were impressive without being overpowering as... This hotel is very near to the centre of Trieste / a little hard to find as it is accecable through very small street. We had room of comfortable size with double bed. Check in has to be done by reception of Urban Hotel Design, on the other side of the street - it took a little bit until we... More

We booked to stay in the James Joyce Hotel in January, on arrival I was told we would be getting a free upgrade to the hotel which they partner (called Urban Design) and where they have a 24hr reception. The hotel itself is located in the heart of the city, so I can't fault the location from a tourist point... More
