The people here are so friendly, it's hard to reconcile with the tenement-slum feel of the place. Seriously, I am sure they don't own a vacuum-cleaner; I saw a staffer sweeping the lobby carpet with a broom, and that's presumably how they "clean" the rooms too, because the areas around baseboards/corners was filthy. The walls were so dirty they were... More

This is a well located and functional place to stay in Ravenna. Our room (13) was quite small and the bed horribly saggy, though clean enough. Friendly enough place with a varied breakfast. Shared bathrooms not checked regularly.

I spent four days in Ravenna at Hotel al Giaciglio. The title, I think, says it all. The hotel is on a pleasant mostly-residential street a couple blocks from the station, within walking distance of all sites in Ravenna's Medieval center. It is on the north side of the Medieval center, and thus closer to the modern part of the... More

This is a pretty basic and a little worn one star hotel, but everything was clean and run by a pleasant, friendly family who gave us maps of the town etc. and were happy to mind luggage during the day. The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. We had a back room which was quiet but I... More

We stayed here one night at the end of our vacation in Italy in mid-September 2006. The staff was very cordial. The restaurant on the ground floor didn't look like much, but that night we were exhausted and decided to stay for dinner. The food was plentiful and excellent. That night we slept comfortably, except for the English-speaking couple next... More

Routard gave their recommendation in 2001 and 2002 to Al Giaciglio, as posted on their front door. Rick Steves calls it a "last resort." We visited in Dec 2004. Al Giaciglio had single-paned windows and the saggy beds showed their age. (Rooms P-1 & P-2) Upstairs the radiator was on all day, all night which made the room hot even... More
