Frommers said this was a great place to stay. It could not have been more off base. The room was very old, incredibly thin walls and very noisy if you have a room on the street. Echo the comments of other posters that the staff is somewhat unfriendly. The rooms are very outdated. I could not tell what Frommer's was... more

This was my eleventh trip to italy. We started the trip in Milan and visited Parma on the second stop of our 10 day stay. Parma is a beautifully preserved, fairly compact city that straddles the Parma river (little flowing with numerous dry spots). The town is quite wealthy and known for its devotion to food (particularly cheese and ham).... more

We spent two nights at this hotel. It is quite a nice hotel but we found the staff to be somewhat unfriendly. The rooms at the front of the hotel can be noisy at night, especially if you leave the window open. We left the window open on the first night as it was quite a warm muggy night. The... more

Stayed there in the beginning of November 2007. Very good location, near the lovely Parco Ducale. Very nice lobby with a lot of artwork. Rooms are nice and large but can be somewhat noisy, outside traffic, and footsteps on the wooden floors in the rooms above. Breakfast average. A problem with the hotel at checkout: they argued for us not... more

This is a charming, old world style hotel. However, that having been said, it is also very loud if you are not on the top floor. We were up all night having initially been on the first floor; footsteps back and forth most of the night. Moving to the highest floor solved the problem and created an even better view... more

Their website is very dishonest. The hotel looks nothing like it. The pictures show rooms that look new and beautiful where in fact the wall paint had stains all over it, the carpet was old and shabby and the furniture was chipped and in bad condition. The entrance to the hotel was blocked and noisy due to road works and... more

This was my favourite hotel out of 3 on a recent trip. They have recently renovated the rooms, so things may have changed since the earlier posting. The staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful, suggesting things to do and places to eat that all proved excellent. They got us great tickets to the opera, which was a real treat. The... more

Parma, a delightful city, has surprisingly few good hotels anywhere near its center. The only real choices are the Hotel Verdi and the Sofitel (which appears to be a perfectly decent, if run-of-the-mill, business hotel). The Verdi faces the Parco Ducale, and the City center is an easy walk through the attractive park. The Verdi gave us a very large,... more

I've stayed at over 20 hotels in Italy, so I've got some idea of what a four star hotel is like there. This hotel was a major disappointment. The room smelled of urine, the air conditioner didn't cool the room, and the decor was 20 years out of date. Mops and other cleaning utensils were stored at the end of... more
