As we parked our car outside I had that sinking feeling. The lady at reception was charming and polite but there was no way I could have spent a night at this hotel. Sadly it is past its sell-by date. Everything is sad and dingy. Only a lot of money could bring it back to what it obviously used to... More

I will begin with the positive points, the position of the hotel is good, as it is close to the centre. The barman was friendly and welcoming. It is a very quiet hotel. The hotel is dreary and old fashioned. The bedroom needed an update, the bathroom was tatty and needed replacing. There were ants on the bedroom floor when... More

This place reminded me of something out of Grand Budapest Hotel. It's odd, but in a charming fun way. Great location, pretty good value - awful awful breakfast - but who really cares. This is a fun place I'd recommend and would stay here again.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Canalgrande while visiting Modena. The hotel is well located and the rooms are fine. The breakfast is average not much choice. What most disappointed us was the members of staff behind reception who were very unhelpful and quite rude. Saying that the restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent and worth a visit.

Bags carried to our rooms and a valet parked the car was a welcome difference. Drinks and included canapés on the rear terrace was peaceful and enjoyable. The rooms with high ceilings and huge windows and shutters over looking a quietish street and people living in their appartments opposite made me feel we really were in an old Italian town.... More

We stayed only one night at the beginning of July to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Modena is a beautiful town -and the Canalgrande is an elegant historic jewel set in the centre. This 16th century Palazzo is in an excellent location to access the duomo and historic centre. Check in was easy and staff charming and helpful. Our room was... More

Hubby and I stayed there for a week last year. We were new (and moving) to the area and this was a great location. The courtyard was beautiful and the hotel is located near the duomo (so in the city center) and near a large park. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was wonderful. Walking distance to tons of... More

Stayed here for my 50th birthday, and we had a wonderful time. This hotel is full of character, with friendly, helpful staff and immaculately maintained rooms. You can eat at their own restaurant, or explore the many fine eateries nearby. Relaxing with a drink prior to an evening in the salon is recommended. The old streets around Corso Canalgrande are... Traditional hotel not in the first flush or mad youth with excellent service standards. Modena is a nice city to stroll around and this hotel is well placed to do just that. breakfast was highlighted by simply brilliant ham. So close to parma it had to be! A real treat Definitely go back.
