I recently stayed for one night at Hotel Canalgrande, which I found here on TripAdvisor. Most of the reviews are quite accurate in reporting that this 300 year old structure offers a great deal of charm in the public areas, though could the rooms really could use some remodeling. I was warmly welcomed upon arrival and the check-in process was... More

This hotel was probably great 30 years ago, too bad the owners let it slip into disrepair. The rooms are beyond dated, it's truly like stepping back in time. Everything about them is dated. The furniture, the finishings, the bedding. I honestly don't think anything has been changed for decades including the mattresses on the beds. The room was extremely... More

Wow! Really felt like we were in Italy! This is an old villa with one of the best patios and garden areas we saw on our trip. We had a room on the third floor, clean and modern baths where needed. The decor was like someones own villa, nice, clean and not modern. We had a small patio outside our... More

The hotel is well located in the historic centre of Modena. Is an old hotel, that could do better with some renovations. The staff is friendly. My room was small, and clean. I didn't have a reservation but I got the last single one. Small, as well as the bathroom. No view, although it had a window, it was closed... More

The hotel is well located in the historic centre of Modena. The staff was friendly and obliging. Our room was big, clean and had a balcony. Breakfast was excellent with good service. Parking right in front of the hotel is a plus.

If you like gloomy, old, dark places, you will like this place. Our room (160) was supposed to be a triple. However, the second "bed" was an old pullout with a sheet on it. The other bed was very stiff, not comfortable at all. The bathroom was small. The room was dark, and it had no view. The AC didn't... More

I have known of the hotel for a long time since it is recommended by almost all travel guides. Previous year I drove by it in Modena and I liked the way it was positioned and looked so I made a reservation and we stayed there for one night of October 18, 2013 in room 346. We were not disappointed... More

This is the second time we've stayed here - it's well located in central Modena with free parking outside (the helpful, English speaking desk staff deal with the ztl issues). We were given a room with a huge balcony over looking the main street - despite being by a restaurant it was quiet at night. Our room was clean and... More

As we parked our car outside I had that sinking feeling. The lady at reception was charming and polite but there was no way I could have spent a night at this hotel. Sadly it is past its sell-by date. Everything is sad and dingy. Only a lot of money could bring it back to what it obviously used to... More
