We arrived in Modena on the train and walked to Hotel Canal Grande in about 20 minutes. Modena's old town is small and convenient to the train station. There aren't many hotels in Modena so choice is limited. There was a very nice looking one (hotel number 3 on the signs/tourist map in the town) but it was full so we stayed in Canal Grande. Canalgrande was nothing special (considering the cost). Nothing terrible, everything was just okay. The gardens shown on the web site were not used. They were even closed during breakfast and no bar service etc out there. Hotel staff not particularly helpful. more
