This hotel has great character, lovely staff, delicious breakfast, large quiet rooms and a super location that is a 10 minute walk to the city center. Caring, personable staff all spoke English and had great recommendations of things to do and places to eat. Will be back!!

We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Porta San Mamolo, being our first time in Bologna. We decided to go for this hotel mainly because of its location, as we were looking for a place near the historic city centre. The good: - The hotel is worth the price just for its breakfast. It is served in the courtyard... More

We stayed here one night on our way from Lucca, Italy to Strasbourg, France. It was an expensive taxi ride from the train station but worth every penny as the staff was exceptional. The room was just what we needed, in fact the air conditioner was pretty good although a little noisy at night. The breakfast was excellent and in... More

My wife and I stayed for one night only. We drove a rental car and the sat-nab took us directly to the hotel. We arranged a car space which was right outside hotel. Our room was clean and tidy, with private balcony overlooking the garden, which was pleasant place relaxing after a busy day sightseeing. It is very quiet and... More

We recently stayed here for six nights and had a very pleasant time. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Our room was large and had a nice sized bathroom, we didn't have a great view but otherwise it was very nice. The courtyard is beautiful and lush with plants with plenty of areas to sit and visit... When we arrived, earlier than check in time, the front desk staff was very gracious and welcoming. They said that they had two rooms and wanted to show them to us so we could pick. One was ready now and the other we would have to wait a bit. The first was in the main building and was moderate sized... More

Well located in a back street about 10 minutes from the centre of Bologna (but 25-30 minutes walk from the railway station) with two restaurants in the same street if you do not want to go far. A very quirky layout with rooms in the main building but also dotted around and behind the pleasant garden and breakfast area. Our... More

We stayed in Bologna for a total of 14 nights and used this underrated city to travel to Venice, Florence and Cinque terre; in essence, we used Bologna and the Hotel Porta San Mamolo as a base from which we discovered parts of northern Italy. The employees of this hotel are outstanding individuals and superb representatives of "the art of... More

We enjoyed this hotel, convenient to the city yet in a quiet residential neighborhood. We were starting a tour with a rented car, which was accommodated by this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast excellent.

This was our the second visit to Porta San Mamolo and we were not disappointed. The rooms are clean, and cleaned each day of your stay, the breakfasts are served in a lovely indoor / outdoor area that is relaxed and airy and the range of food although not huge is both fresh and varied. The staff cannot do enough... More
