Location is great, specially for women solo traveler, within a walking distance from main tourist attractions. The place is old - of course - but clean, they offer a very simple breakfast. Cons: reception is not very useful, they can help you to get a taxi but not to hire a tour. The close early, so yo have to tell... More

The rooms are clean and comfortable; the lockers are huge, you can easily lock all your stuff there; amazing staff, they were so nice and useful; you can use their hairdryer; really nice breakfast; you can go ANYWHERE walking, simply amazing location!

The Location is not close to any metro station, but there are plenty of buses. It is close to a great area called Trastevere. The hostel is very clean, cozy and comfortable. I feel very safe because it's only for women. The sheets are not enough though, I felt cold at night. My roommate said that hot water was not... More

Perfect place to stay if you want to see Trastevere and have a peaceful time, but meet great people and fellow-travelers along the way. I highly recommend Orsa Maggiore! Location is great, right in between Trastevere and Campo de Fiori. Wonderfully quiet, and helpful staff!

I stayed here a few years ago and I have recommended it to all my female friends travelling to Rome since then! I stayed with my sister in a dormitory with 8 beds, and this was one of our favourite hostels in Europe. Check in staff were very friendly, even though I had poor Italian. The hostel beds and bathrooms... More

This was a great hostel ... better than I could have hoped for. It is located in the Trastavere neighborhood just a 10-15 minute walk to the Vatican and all other major Rome attractions across the neighborhood. I shared a room with four other women. My bed was comfortable and I was assigned a locker (and lock) to store my... More

Stayed here for one night in a private room with my mother as we backpacked round Italy. Our room was spacious. We had a private bathroom. We did joke that while the bathroom was very large there was a tiny shower! However, there was nothing wrong with the facilities. The breakfast was a toast, juice and coffee which set us... More

Clean, comfortable (though no A/C), great cheerful staff. Rooms and baths and showers have been spotless throughout the 2 stays. Safe (it's next to the prison...), and near Trastevere, Tiber, and Vatican City. Ladies from all over the world are staying there. With jetlag, you could rest on your bed and disruptions were minimal. Quiet and dark through the night.... More

Orsa Maggiore was truly a great place. The service is good and the staff are very welcoming! We would definitely recommend it's maggiore to other female travelers who wants to experience Rome from a comfortable area and in walking distance from everything! Everything is just tip top at Orsa Maggiore!

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
