Like others reviewers, we were shuffled off to another hotel on our arrival, in our case the Opera Roma around the corner (previously the Sonya Suite). As it turned out, it was a perfectly adequate hotel for our family stay in Rome, but it wasn't the hotel we booked for, hence taking one star off. I can't compare it to... More

We chose the Sonya for value, proximity to Roma Termini and positive Tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Since you don't want to drive in Rome, location is your first consideration. Since we trained in from Florence we wanted to be walking distance from Termini. Sonya was a 10 minute walk. We also wanted to be near the Metro and... More

I had booked a room at the Hotel Sonya, and when I was checking in, they moved me across the street to their Sonya Suite, just steps away. The accomodations were very nice, the room had a small balcony. The hotel lift was small but efficient. The only drawback was the shower in the bathroom. Being a larger guy (XXL),... More

Like many others, we had booked a room at Sonya Hotel and got transferred to Sonya Suite. The room was clean and it had a little balcony and a large bathroom. There was a minibar and a safety locker and international tv channels in the room. It was very quiet in the nights, we didn't hear any noise from the... More

When you book, you might want to double check with them wether your room is in Sonya Hotel or Sonya Suite. They are operated by the same people and lie only about a 100 meters form each other, however different buildings, so check if you don't want to have any surprises. The location is superb and very convenient to take... More

Sonya Suites is an overflow place for the Hotel Sonya. It is convenient, a few minutes walk to Repubblica where you can get the metro, not much longer walk to Termini. The only down to this hotel is the hard beds although I understand that this is common in Italy. There is a lovely breakfast room where really good expresso... More

The hotel was beyond our expectations. although we read the great reviews before we booked it we were very much satisfied from everything. The hotel was in an excellent location, close to many sights (15 min by foot). There was a metro station just 100m from the hotel. There were many good restaurants near by the hotel. The staff of... As with many people, we booked our room for Hotel Sonya and were transferred just down the street to Sonya Suites (which is actually the new name for the Hotel Opera). Our room was small, good bathroom. Breakfast was fine. Good location. Only problem was our room did not have a window (at all). We found this very strange, but... More

We booked a good Internet rate with the offer of less if paying cash, so value for money was mist influential in the decision. We booked at the hotel but were guided to the suites, adjacent to the hotel location. Standard hotel size rooms but everything was new and clean. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The... More

We had booked to stay in the Hotel Soyna, and were a bit disappointed to be moved over to the Suites, having read good reviews on teh hotel. The rooms are a bit jaded, and dated, but very clean. They were cleaned every day, and fresh towels and toilettries every day. Sheets were only changed every second day, not a... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
