There is one magical garden on the entry gate (Prima Porta) to Rome: the resplendent Silj estate, which offers a tranquil refuge from the city buzz and the usual post-card experience. When we arrived we were greeted by a male version of Dante’s Beatrice, a guide who beats all other guides. The host’s conception of an ideal holiday – and... More

What a charming and welcoming place and extraordinary owners. Bernard and Eleonore are such lovely persons who make you feel at home. During our stay - the sixteen of us - they did everything possible to make it happy, confortable and nice. Bernard's " Story telling gardens" idea is a great one and at twenty minutes from Rome you can... More

This amazing property lies a short train ride from Rome, and then a few minutes by bus. You are then entering an inspiring, tranquil and serene property - with a main house coupled with several smaller, independent houses where you can be by yourself/yourselves. The garden is amazing. You can do your own cooking, and will be assisted with shopping... More

We arrived after a 20 minute drive through Italian countryside to a beautifully gated and charmingly picturesque turn of the century villa at the top of a winding driveway. We were warmly welcomed by the proprietors and offered beverages and snacks, which were welcomed after a long flight. - After being offered several rooms, we chose one in the main... More

We stayed with Bernard for 6 nights in March while the 16 of us enjoyed the sites of Rome. The main house and Farina Cottage were pleasant. It was great to chat with Bernard about all the history around the area. Wish we could have seen some of the things he talked about. We requested the kitchen be stocked with... More

False advertisment for a rundown property. The owner's wife was very cold, unpleasant, and inhospitable & acted as if were an inconvenience to her. We were promised transport to/from the local grocery which never materialized. We caught a bus to the store and taxi back; when we called for pick up from the supermarket were told the owners had gone... More

Bernard S, Owner at Villa Silj, responded to this review

The booking was for 7 days for a total of 26 guests but I think 23 came. The total price was €uro 3,880 which makes €uro 149 / person per week and not $ 550 / person / week . The price division between the participants was an internal affair to them and some may have paid more than others... More

Bernard and Elanora are the perfect hosts. From the ready made meal on arrival to being shuttled around in their van, there seemed no task they weren't prepared to help us with. As a family travelling with grandparents and small children, we found these extra considerations on their behalf to be invaluable. The house itself is exactly as you would... More

We had the wonderful opportunity to book the East and West Wing in October. What a wonderful and relaxing place to stay. Though the weather was starting to cool and we didn't make use of the pool, or frequent the beautifully landscape property as much as we'd hoped, we found the property to include everything we needed to make our... I was in Villa Silj with family and friends. This charming house with big beautiful garden is amazing place for rest in silence and is located near the one of the oldest capital cities in Europe - Rome. The house is not modern but it has a spirit of the Italian history. Ideal location for those who want to visit... More

We stayed in the west wing of the fabulous Roman Villa Silj fir one week as part of a 10 week sojourn through France and Italy . The owners Bernard , his wife and sons could not have been welcoming, nothing was a trouble and the history of the property was fascinating to us all. This fabulous property is located... More
