Let us start from the most crucial point - Rome is TERRIBLY expensive, and yet it is a must-see. So, the last thing you want is to spend more than you have to on accomodation. Spent 4 nights at B & B Laterano (Via Tasso, 155, just off Piazza S. Giovanni in Laterano). First "B" (bed) is fine: comfortable beds, good bathrooms, air conditioning); second "B" (breakfast) is weak: all do-it-yourself, with milk, and coffee,pre-packaged baked goods.
