Great location, only 10 minutes from Termini station and within walking distance to most of the sites. Arrived before official check-in time however our room was ready so we were able to drop off our bags and head straight out to discover Rome. Lovely room which was cleaned daily. Free wifi was a bonus. Would have scored higher only my... More

It is always a challange to find inexpensive accomodations in a large city. Usually the less expensive hotels are in a bad area, dirty, noisy, or not clean. THis is not the experience you will have with Il Papavero. Yes, it is a one star hotel so don't expect 5 star amenities. But you'll be very surprised that ypu do... More

Not a bad little room, bed was comfy, shower was powerful and the room was clean and warm. No form of facilities though not even a cup! Only about a 5 minute walk from where the dropoff/pickup point from the airport is (the termini) the lady on reception showed us on the map where everything was, the prices we should... More

IL Papavero is a brilliant hotel! I arrived in Rome on New Year's Day ( 01/01/15). At the Roma termini station I had my Pasports, money, bank cards, everything.. Stolen .. The hotel staff were fantastic ( Thank you Cosmin and colleagues). Our room was very clean, and we had fresh towels everyday. Use of microwave and kettle and of course... More

I switched to this hotel from another one in Rome because its ratings had declined dramatically, but I was concerned about some of the comments about this hotel as well, but I need not have worried. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is cheap although that does not include breakfast. The wifi works and is reasonably fast.... More

Just spent a weekend in Rome & chose the hotel because it was cheap and fairly central. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly lady at the reception and showed to our room in a flat around the corner. The facilities were much better that what I was expecting. Decent sized room, good balcony and wonderful bathroom. We arrived... More

Tiny "cosy" rooms, but cheap and in a very good location. It is just 5 minutes walk from termini train station. That's handy if your flight lands late at night! The area is full of restaurants, take away, bars, gay saunas. Very good for young people.

check in was a little confusing and they want you to pay upfront when you arrive which I found unusual. a little bit of a walk from termini. the room was small but fine for a place to sleep. the bathroom seemed recently refurbished and very clean. it was in a building with private apartments and it was a bit... The Hotel is very good value for your money as it is in the center of Rome. Close to line A and B of the Metro. The personnel are very nice and will take time to help you whenever you require. All in all I was very satisfied in my stay there (9 days).

It is close to termini, the price is ok. The bed very uncomfortable, we stayed for 7 nights, it was cleaned every day but I think they never change the sheets. It is better to give a little more money to stay closer to the center and to better hotel. The staff was helpuf. The gave us information for the... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
