The hotel is located a 15 minute walk from the train station in a decent neighborhood complete with lower cost restaurants and cafes. The room (for 3) was very small but clean. This hotel is fine for those who want a clean, safe place to sleep at a very reasonable cost. The reception desk people were very friendly and there... More

My partner and I stayed at this hotel from the 4th to the 7th of April. Location Excellent. We have stayed in this area before and enjoyed that all major attractions are within walking distance and is close to the Termini. The best gelato shop in Rome is at the top of the road, no exaggeration it's called gelataria la... More

There is nothing really bad with the hotel or its rooms. Everything was clean and for the cheap price id say you get what you pay for. It worked for us for the night. we got in at midnight, slept, got up at 8 and headed to the airport. the toilet needs a while to re-charge the water so if you... More

Spent my last two nights in Rome at this " Hotel". For two people with two single beds for two nights it cost around 60 euro, so the price was right! The shower head didn't stay up, so you had to manually use the wand style but water was hot. Bathroom was clean. For the $ it's OK. Bring ear... More

My brother and I stayed here for four nights while in Rome. The room was clean and comfortable. The maids came in each day and made up the room. We had queen size bed and a twin size bed plus a tv. The private bath was a good size and clean. The reason I did not give five stars is... More

Great location, only 10 minutes from Termini station and within walking distance to most of the sites. Arrived before official check-in time however our room was ready so we were able to drop off our bags and head straight out to discover Rome. Lovely room which was cleaned daily. Free wifi was a bonus. Would have scored higher only my... More

It is always a challange to find inexpensive accomodations in a large city. Usually the less expensive hotels are in a bad area, dirty, noisy, or not clean. THis is not the experience you will have with Il Papavero. Yes, it is a one star hotel so don't expect 5 star amenities. But you'll be very surprised that ypu do... More

Not a bad little room, bed was comfy, shower was powerful and the room was clean and warm. No form of facilities though not even a cup! Only about a 5 minute walk from where the dropoff/pickup point from the airport is (the termini) the lady on reception showed us on the map where everything was, the prices we should... More

IL Papavero is a brilliant hotel! I arrived in Rome on New Year's Day ( 01/01/15). At the Roma termini station I had my Pasports, money, bank cards, everything.. Stolen .. The hotel staff were fantastic ( Thank you Cosmin and colleagues). Our room was very clean, and we had fresh towels everyday. Use of microwave and kettle and of course... More

I switched to this hotel from another one in Rome because its ratings had declined dramatically, but I was concerned about some of the comments about this hotel as well, but I need not have worried. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is cheap although that does not include breakfast. The wifi works and is reasonably fast.... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
