We stayed here for 7 nights and on arrival we couldn't get in through the gate, we rang the buzzer a number of times with no answer. When we finally got inside and approached a man in a little office, he didn't greet us in a friendly way at all. He gave us a map of the city and showed... More

San Jouan is in a great place, out of the hussle and bussle in a little courtyard, yet the furthest things are less than an hours walk away. The rooms are quite small but that's not really an issue as you'll spend most time sightseeing, and there is a lovely little patio area with tables and chairs out the front.... More

This B&B offers great value for money in a nice residential area (visited off peak) We were within 10 mins walking distance to the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, the neighbourhood surrounding the B&B towards the Forum offers some great restaurants. The Manzoni tube stop is very close and tickets are really cheap (6 euro for 24hr unlimited travel) The... More

€29. that's how much this cost me- I was almost put off as it was so cheap! Don't be- it is fantastic. Having seen suggestions on TA to request room 4, we did- and that's what we got. A lovely double bed looks out onto your own private courtyard terrace accessed by large French windows. Large TV, great shower and... More

We really enjoyed our stay here. This place has everything you need. Breakfast if you desire, easy check in, check out, conveniently located close to Manzoni, great local restaurants, close to the Colosseum, Palatino Hill, Roman Forum etc. Would stay here again!

This guest house meets all our demands in an ideal hotel. It is not expensive, serves good breakfast, easy-going and with a unique design character. Once there, you can feel at home right away! The selection of books they have are also ideal for relaxing and I always have regrets of not having too much time to just stay at... More

This was our 1st trip to Rome. The owner was extremely helpful, and so were the other two girls who worked at that place. They recommended some excellent good restaurants nearby & also in giving us a map & helping us find directions to most of the attractions. It is located within walking distance to the Colosseum and other attractions... More

We had just come from Sicily when we arrived at San Jouan Guest House, so we had high hopes that the B&B would be just as great. But to our dismay, it was not. The interior of the living space/public area is very nicely decorated. With the glass windowed terrace area for breakfast or general mingling.. very sweet. The rooms... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
