The Casa di Lorena is a good way out of the centre, about an hour in metro and bus, but the lovely house and the friendliness of Lorena and Maurizio more than repay the effort. I stayed in a very tastefully decorated and comfortable attic room, with my own private and funky bathroom. The other room is called the zen room and in fact there was a very zen feeling about the whole house. Lorena is a musician and sometimes music floats through the house to add to the good atmosphere. Her breakfasts are also excellent and more than generous. In fact she teaches italian cookery.
I found both Lorena and Mauricio very helpful with advice about Rome and Lorena even got up at 4.30 in the morning to drive me to the airport for a very reasonable fee, given the hour. They both speak English.
