I had reserved two nights at Hotel Maryelen for the beginning and end of my son and daughter-in-law's honeymoon, reason being it was close to Termini train station. I had told the reservationist that they would be arriving very late (around midnight) on June 26. I paid up front, and when the couple arrived they were told the hotel was... More

is never enough! Our stay at Hotel Maryelen was wonderful. Our rooms were clean & the hosts were welcoming. The beds we're extremely firm, which some of our family loved. The hotel is well situated, close to Termini, but not too busy. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Coliseum and even shorter if you take the bus. They... More

This was my third stay at Hotel MaryElen. From previous experience I knew we would be staying at a location that was clean, safe and friendly. As they say location location location. Being but a few blocks from the train station and buses made moving around Rome quite easy. The rooms are very basic but comfortable, clean, equipped with the... More

My wife and I stayed here in late April. The welcome is very warm and friendly. The rooms are spotless and the service is very good. We paid 110 euros per night for 7 nights, so we expected the hotel to be an above average three star. The breakfast, we found to be rather ordinary and is served in the... More

My husband and I have just returned from 4 nighrs staying in this hotel in Rome. All the staff in this family run hotel were very helpful and welcoming. The location of the hotel is excellent and all the main sights are walkable. There are many restaurants around to choose from. Our stay was excellent value for money and we... More

We enjoyed this little place. Laurie, the hostess of the family-run hotel, was friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. The rooms were small, a bit dated, but clean. A basic breakfast was provided. The location near Termini station is fantastic. I would happily return.

It's very easy to get to from the train station and the staff was friendly. The rooms were kind of small but that is to be expected in a city. There were lots of restaurants on the block and the main tourist sights are all within walking distance if you are in good shape. We usually left for the day... More

the family who run the Maryelen are helpful, warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the on suites very good loads of hot water. The hotel is in a very good position to get everywhere in Rome and there are very many restaurants in the vicinity, when we are next in Rome... More

I like the personal service at Hotel Maryelen. The staff were all friendly and helpful. You can ask them for travel tips and reasonable requests. They try their best to help you. Their care and personal attention are well-noted in my stay with them. I highly recommend this place.

The Hotel is near the Termini Station. If you are a backpacker, remember that in that place you could find metro (both lines), trams and buses for every direction of the city. Around the area and near the hotel there are plenty of cheap but above average restaurants, fast foods and trattorias. The rooms are clean and old-fashioned but the... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
