Browse through the reviews of this hotel and you'll see that people either love this pace or are completely un-impressed. With that in mind, here is my review/impression: Arco die Tolomei is in the Trastevere part of Rome, which has great restaurants and is ~20 min walk to the major sites in the city center (e.g. Colosseum). The area is... More

We just loved our stay at Residenza Arco dei Tolomei in the area known as Trastevere. It is within walking distance of all the major sites one would like to visit. Breakfast in the dinning room was delightful. Marco and Gianna were gracious hosts with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share in order to make the most of... More

We were met by Marco who was incredibly welcoming and friendly. He gave us maps and some off-the-beaten-track tourist recommendations.. and we visited them all! Located near restaurants and bars and walking distance to the river, Forum and centre of Rome, the place is a million miles away from the typical noisy, teeny tiny hotels I've previously stayed in Rome.... Amazing place to stay. Marco could not do enough to make our stay superb. He arranged a taxi to pick us up from the airport . Joceline the house keeper made gorgeous cakes for breakfast, booked taxi's and made reservations at restaurants. The local area is wonderful to explore. Truly wonderful place.

Our stay was wonderful. Quite comfortable, well appointed, clean and well located. Marco and Gianna were great; very accommodating and helpful. Each morning they would greet their guests at breakfast and share some helpful tips for trouble free sightseeing, restaurants or further travel. Ron and Nancy, Stoneham, MA

Marco & Gianna run a beautiful guest house it is small, personal and simply wonderful. It was everything we wanted a real Italian experience not some boring glossy hotel with no personality. Marco is a wonderful host offering advice on what to see & what to do, recommending great local restaurants. The breakfast are lovely served in the dinning room... More

Arco de Tolomei is a lovely inn nestled in the quaint neighborhood of Trastevere. It's not what I expected as it's almost like a group of apartments within a larger apartment building, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I never met the owners but the woman on-site was extremely helpful and available. I read a lot about the... More

Staying at the Rezidenzia Arco de Tomei is like staying with close friends. Entering the hotel is a little complicated since it is up several stairs and not well marked, but once inside the welcome is warm and helpful. Marco helped us to find little hidden gems in the neighbourhood and made all our dinner reservations at friendly and delicious... More

I hesitate to write a review, because I want to be able to easily book here again! This is a large, elegant old apartment, in which Marco and Gianna rent out rooms. It is spacious and Marco is the perfect host. I suggest you listen to his advice on tickets, times to avoid queues etc. Breakfast is in a grand... More

You enter through a dark dirty corridor with flaked paint. The place is dark. Our room, which was quiet, was darker, hotter, stuffy. Breakfast was as cheap as it comes except the marmalade which was the best thing about the stay. The person looking after us was sweet and pleasant. I cannot understand why this place is so highly rated.... More

Marcofe, Proprietario at Residenza Arco dei Tolomei, responded to this review

I have to agree with the guest about the entrance which is not clean as we'd like, but unfortunately it doesn't depend on us but on all the people leaving in the building. Fortunately and more important, the situation inside is very clean, welcoming and well furnished. I don't know in which room the guest stayed (one honestly is a... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
