You enter through a dark dirty corridor with flaked paint. The place is dark. Our room, which was quiet, was darker, hotter, stuffy. Breakfast was as cheap as it comes except the marmalade which was the best thing about the stay. The person looking after us was sweet and pleasant. I cannot understand why this place is so highly rated.... More

I have to agree with the guest about the entrance which is not clean as we'd like, but unfortunately it doesn't depend on us but on all the people leaving in the building. Fortunately and more important, the situation inside is very clean, welcoming and well furnished. I don't know in which room the guest stayed (one honestly is a... More

Marco and Gianna are a wonderful couple. Right from the moment we arrived at the property we felt at home in its very traditional decor. We love our food and wine, and Marco set us up in some of his favourite local restaurants, which were off the beaten tourist track. All the major tourist sites are within 45 minutes walk... More

We were fortunate enough to be able to return to Arco dei Tolomei, a charming guesthouse in a great neighborhood (Trastevere), within 2-3 blocks of the Tiber, taxi stand, and public transportation. Beautifully decorated with antiques, with fully modern en suite facilities and remote-controlled air conditioners in each of the six guest rooms (some with small balcony). Convenient (and free)... A hidden gem in Trastevere, this 6 room retreat is in a perfect location to explore Rome. Marco and his family are absolutely wonderful and so knowledgeable about hidden treasures of the area. We enjoyed our time with them so much and can't say enough about how great they are!

This charming Guest House is located in a quiet neighborhood only minutes from the hustle and bustle of the main piazzas of Trastevere. The bedrooms are delightfully decorated with antiques and vintage wallpaper some rooms even have balconies. The hosts, Marco and Gianna, visit with their guests daily over breakfast in their dining room. Marco will often inquire about plans... More

Highly recommended, charmingly ancient, and what one would essentially call a bed & breakfast in UK parlance. Half a dozen, large ensuite bedrooms attractively decorated in the old fashioned Roman style. A communal breakfast table can lead to lively early morning conversations under the watchful eye of the charming and cultured host, Marco, an Italian with absolute command of the... More

We stayed in this charming Guest House for 3 days with our 12 yr old son. Our room was spacious, well appointed and charming. The location is excellent for getting to most sites on foot. In addition, if you are a runner, being right next to the Tiber is a bonus. The proprietors are a wealth of information. They were... More

What a lovely quiet retreat away from the busyness of Rome! Trastevere is definitely the place to stay if you want to be out of the hustle and bustle but still walking distance to many attractions. Marco and Gianna welcome you into their home, and are only too happy to point out places of interest to visit, wonderful places to... More

This lovely guest house is in a perfect location to see the sites of Rome, a short walk over the river takes you to the historic centre. Located in a quiet part of Trastevere you are guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep. Marco is the perfect host, he offered us plenty of advice on how to spend our day, he also... More

Residenza Arco dei Tolomei is located in quiet Trastevere which is an easy walk to many of Rome's famous attractions. Marco is fantastic at helping you put together an itinerary for your day pointing out museums and churches etc, which are grouped together in whichever direction you decide to explore. He also helped us with reservations for excellent restaurants. The... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
