Location was ok. Staff was unfriendly and spoke poor English. Bathroom was old and dirty (hairs on toilet seat, in the shower and sink), mirror with white stains and smears, the plastic shower doors had toothpaste splashes on the exterior, there was mould between most of the tiles, the desk in the room was sticky and had stains, as did... I've stayed at Hotel Castelfidardo on all my trips to Rome since 2007, first as a woman traveling alone and then with family. I love the fact that you can get a clean, affordable single, double, or triple only a few blocks from Termini station. Termini is Rome's major train/metro/bus hub that gets you all over Rome and, indeed Europe.... More

This hotel is nothing special. It is located in an apartment building which is a little strange. The rooms were very basic and the bathroom was tiny, even for European standards. It was mostly clean except some mold located in the cracks of the shower. It is near the train station which is convienent for transportation.

We stayed for 2 nights, its nice and warm. Staff is very helpful. Nearby restaurants and ice cream shops are available with really good italian food. Excellent for backpack travelers. Center is 20 minute walk and it has the best ice cream shop we tasted in the whole city Gelateria La Romana. To have dinner or lunch we recommend Steak... More

A little unusual hotel. Hotel is actually a floor of a residential building in the city center. Maybe you think that's bad housing but wrong. It is a decent hotel and not expensive. The hotel is in a good location near the Termini station. To the historic sights can be reached on foot from the hotel. The hotel rooms are... More

The hotel is very near Termini station and we walked to all major sights in Rome but it is also very near the metro station so it can be convenient when visiting Vatican. The hotel has a small lift which is handy when carrying bags. On the negative side, the bathroom was shockingly small and I didn't like the room... More

My room was simple, but very clean and had a large bathroom with shower. The bed was very comfortable. I believe I paid about $75 for the single and it did not include breakfast. Nice location about a ten minute walk to the train station and maybe 15 minutes to some of Rome's best sites including the Spanish Steps, Forum... More

If you want fancy digs, go elsewhere. But if you want someplace that is spotless and friendly, then this is the place for you. The bedroom and bathroom were quite large and the bed was very comfortable. Everything was spotless. And the free wifi was great. The only drawback was no breakfast, but the area is so central you simply... More

The Hotel is near Termini Station in a safe zone. The rooms is located on the 3r Floor , there is a old and fun elevator that can help you with the baggage. There security is quiet good , since you need 3 keys to get to your room. My room was near the reception , so in the morning... More

The hotel was the starting point for my Intrepid tour so I booked in there the night before. I had flown for 36 hours from Australia to Rome then caught the Leanoardo Express to Terminin Centrale. The hotel was within walking distance even at 10:00pm, basic accomodation but clean. Unlike aussie hotels it was just a small section of the... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
