I have again stayed at Hotel Villa San Pio on Aventino in Rome. The area Aventino is one of the seven hills of Rome and was already during the period of the ancient Roman Republican period inhabited. It is today a quite residential area with great villas, churches and small parks. In my view it is the best area to... More

I stayed in Hotel Villa San Pio in June 2014, and I felt it was a bit of an outdated place. The room I got had a sense of grandeur lost, and despite it's regal décor was scruffy around the edges. The restaurant was similar, a place that might have been once opulent looking, but now a little tacky. The... More

Dear Guest, thank you for your email. We are little surprised though you have posted your review after 7 months of your stay and we believe it created in your memories some confusion. In fact we definitly don't have a restaurant in our hotel and therefore we really don't understand how you could have find expensive and not good. We... More

I've been staying at this complex of hotels for a few years but now as I look for a place to book for January, I am reminded of the horribly uncomfortable bed I tried to sleep in here at San Pio last summer. It was like hard cardboard. I slept hardly a wink. When I asked at check-out whether there... More

Dear Coradee Thank you for your comment. We would like to tell you that we regularly change mattresses and pillows because we think for the comfort, the cleanliness and the good sleep of our guests is the most important thing. The staff and service are fantastic. They go out of their way to make you happy and comfortable. The owners, the Piroli family could not be nicer and once you... More

In the midst of a busy city with heavy traffic, trains and buses, we found a quiet and beautiful refuge at classy Hotel Villa San Pio. The included breakfast was a feast, served inside overlooking a beautiful courtyard, or outside in the gardens. We parked our rental car free. Our spotless room overlooked tall, beautiful trees, and from the top... More

The hotel is like a resort, full of greenery and orange trees! The rooms are charming and old style, but much more spacious compared to the average room size across Europe. The staff and manager were very friendly and extremely helpful. It was raining the day we landed, which is unusual for this time of the year, but the manager... More

First the positives: the staff were very professional and helpful; the hotel is near the Colosseum and other tourist attractions, the breakfast is good, the internet is ok and I was given a good price deal. However, the room I was given is almost the size of the king bed that filled it. So, you really needed to negotiate the... More

Dear Helena, thank you for your comment. We looked on our records and we noticed you booked a single and last room available, which was sold at very convenient rate. We also had availabile superior and standard rooms which are much more comfortable and beautiful, but the price is higher and which of course you didn't choose. Sorry for the... More

The staff at the hotel, bar and breakfast were outstanding. The area is quiet and the terrace overlooks a beautiful neighborhood. The room was comfortable and very clean. It was my father's highlight to get to breakfast in the morning and relax. We would stay here again.

The room we had on the 3rd floor was so nice it has 3 windows that overlooked the garden, the quiet street and the main entrance to the hotel. Hotel staffs was so helpful with our needs that I couldn't think what else I could ask for. Complimentary breakfast was a definite plus. Colleseum was just 10 minutes walk and... More

Staying in Aventine

Neighborhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
