After the frantic pace of the city it was a pleasure to get back to the hotel and just relax in the peaceful surroundings. I could not fault the staff who were always friendly and smiling which is more than I can say about the people in general in Rome. The breakfast kept us going for most of the day... More

The hotel is lovely, made up of 3 beautiful villas, and situated centrally. Staff is helpful, breakfast is good, but there are no evening meals served. I had a room just around the corner of the reception, which was very noisy, other rooms seem to be better.

Dear Guest, Thank you for have given us the pleasure to host you in our “Roman Villa” on the exclusive Aventino hill. We are very sorry that you had the room next to the reception; probably you had booked a single room instead of a double for single use as we usually recommend. We hope to have you back soon... Really nice hotel - fabulous staff - friendly and attentive. Rooms are nice if a little bit dated, but I have to say this is my experience in general of Rome hotels. Buffet breakfast perfectly adequate with great coffee! Could be a bit of improvement on the cleaning side of things - but maybe I am being picky. In a... More

I stayed at Villa San Pio while on business for a week. The hotel is in a quiet area, about 1km from the Forum, also a short walk from Buco di Roma. While it has a plaque at the entrance that says "One of the most romantic hotels in the world", I failed to see the romantic part. It was... More

I have again stayed at Hotel Villa San Pio on Aventino in Rome. The area Aventino is one of the seven hills of Rome and was already during the period of the ancient Roman Republican period inhabited. It is today a quite residential area with great villas, churches and small parks. In my view it is the best area to... More

I stayed in Hotel Villa San Pio in June 2014, and I felt it was a bit of an outdated place. The room I got had a sense of grandeur lost, and despite it's regal décor was scruffy around the edges. The restaurant was similar, a place that might have been once opulent looking, but now a little tacky. The... More

I've been staying at this complex of hotels for a few years but now as I look for a place to book for January, I am reminded of the horribly uncomfortable bed I tried to sleep in here at San Pio last summer. It was like hard cardboard. I slept hardly a wink. When I asked at check-out whether there... More

In the midst of a busy city with heavy traffic, trains and buses, we found a quiet and beautiful refuge at classy Hotel Villa San Pio. The included breakfast was a feast, served inside overlooking a beautiful courtyard, or outside in the gardens. We parked our rental car free. Our spotless room overlooked tall, beautiful trees, and from the top... More

Staying in Aventine

Neighborhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
