Lovely hotel across the road from the Vatican. A really great experience, helpful staff, spotless hotel, delicious breakfasts. The cherry on top was Easter Lunch, with amazing view of the Vatican and the Pope, the four course meal and wines were exceptional, a fitting end to a great holiday.

Extraordinary hotel, outstanding staff and a peaceful oasis in the middle of Rome! Located just steps from St. Peter's Square, Residenza Paolo VI is a gem offering exceptional value and ambience. Rooms are beautifully decorated and immaculate; breakfast is delicious and ample; and the roof top bar/café offers outstanding meals with a breathtaking view of St. Peter's Basilica. I truly... This gem of a hotel is absolutely charming! A wonderful location, beautifully decorated and the staff is helpful and very friendly. This hotel is located directly on Vatican City's St. Peter’s Square. We could not have been happier with our stay. Thank you so much!

Traditional hotel in Fabulous location right next to St Peter's. We enjoyed our stay enormously. Scrupulously clean with a beautiful covered terrace overlooking the basilica. Staff were knowledgable and friendly. Great breakfast with tons of choice (including bacon and eggs). Rooms weren't huge but they were more than adequate. The only very minor negative was that the room was a... More

The location is just fantastic! Literally steps from St. Peter's square. We stayed in the newly remodeled area in the room Rafaelo. The room was beautifully decorated with antiques and 2 twin beds, medium firm, nice fluffy pillows and comforter. These rooms face an interior courtyard so they were very quiet. Excellent spacious marble bathroom decorated with elegant yeso moldings.... More

This hotel is charming with great views and nicely decorated rooms! View from room is of a courtyard; but from other areas in building spectacular views of St Peters basilica and square from across the street are plentiful! This is a trip planned for myself and my mother.. She had some passport issues so will join me later in week.... More

This little hotel is a gem. The Bernini Collonade (left side) of St Peter's is across the street, but the location is on the opposite side from all the tourist traffic. The facility shares a building with the Philippine embassy and other organizations and was formerly a monastery. Thus the single rooms are monkish, and the service is very Catholic,... More

We took a taxi from the railway station to the Paolo VI and were stunned just how close it was from St. Peter's Basilica. The hotel itself is fabulous from Heidi at the desk, the terrace bar where you can look out over the Piazza San Pietro, the full delicious breakfast, the cleanliness of the rooms, and the convenience of... We stayed for four nights and couldn't fault the hotel. We ate in the hotel one evening and the food was simple but delicious. The breakfasts were all you could wish for and the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The location was second to none and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.

We chose Residenza Paolo VI for a brief stay at the end of our Italian viaggio. We personally enjoyed our time at this hotel very much. Those who travel to Rome to specifically concentrate on St. Peter's and Vatican City should not be disappointed. This property is within the governance of Vatican City. Those aspects of this property not necessarily... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
