The location is incredible, and I agree with all the reviews about how clean it is, and how friendly the staff is, but I do need to add some caution to folks as a frequent traveler. We were just here for 4 nights. If I were here for a romantic visit, I would be sorely disappointed! The beds were hard,... More

Across the street from St Peter's Square, with a roof terrace overlooking the Vatican from where you can see the Pope deliver the Angelus on Sundays. This is a stylish hotel with excellent friendly staff and a superb breakfast dining room, where the staff could not be more helpful. Secure and quiet, it was our ideal hotel, where we would... More

Excellent location, just steps away from St. Peter's Basilica. Ability to bypass the crowds by visiting Vatican early or late in day. Helpful, friendly staff. Great breakfast. Terrace with view of the Basilica. Close to bus and metro in order to visit the rest of Rome. Stayed for a second time around Christmas and will visit again in the future.

We chose this place because if it's location right by St. Peter's and the previous good reviews and we weren't disappointed at all. We arrived earlier than the stipulated check in straight from the airport - no problem and straight in to the room. the room as on the small side, but well furnished and clean - not a huge... More

We had a great stay here a few weeks ago, such helpful staff who at our day before notice, arranged a taxi to pick us up from the train station. Also arranged a packed breakfast for 4 so we could tour early morning to Pompeii. They recommended two lovely restaurants within walking distance and we were certainly not disappointed. Right... I selected The Residenza Hotel by all the good reviews on Tripadvisor. The hotel rooms were very small. The shower was very small. Each shower with each turn you have to be careful or you will adjust the water temperature. We had a street view. Every night there was someone outside playing an accordion. This made it very special. Less... More

As ever - just a great place to stay. Beside the Vatican. Excellent staff. Always helpful. Easy access to the city. Rooms kept immaculately clean. Quiet. Peaceful and restful after long days walking Rome. Recommend room overlooking courtyard - facing away from street. This is a renovated monastery. Ground floor is an embassy. Second floor is Department Sacred Music. Third... More

I will be coming to this hotel late November. Would you recommend organising transfers from the airport or would it be okay to just get a taxi on arrival? How far is the airport from the hotel? Thank you x

My wife and I went to Rome pre-cruise and post-cruise. Decided to stay close to the Vatican pre-cruise before taking the train to Venice. We could not have picked a better location for a Vatican area hotel. Right across the street from St. Peter's Basilica! I guess some rooms had a Vatican view, but ours looked over a courtyard. We... On our recent trip to Rome, we had decided to focus on the Vatican area and found Residenza Paolo VI on an internet search. What a lucky find! The hotel is located literally across the street from St. Peter's Square and Basilica and within easy walking distance of most of the historic sites on that side of Rome. There are... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
