I am very due to return to this wonderful hotel that is located in my most favorite part of central Rome, Trastevere. This lovely hotel is a hidden gem in one of the most ancient and charismatic sections of this amazing city. Located opposite the piazza by Santa Maria Church this hotel is perfect for everyone. The staff are amazing... More

This was a lovely small hotel with lots of charm. The location was great but we would probably have never found it on our own as it is tucked away. We got the hotel to arrange the taxi for us from the airport which took us straight to hotel in about 30mins. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was spotless.... More

What a find. Just off the main square opposite Santa Maria church, you enter through a gate and walk along to a courtyard with rooms adjacent and on the first floor. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the room we had was in the roof with a long sitting room through to the bedroom. The breakfast was lovely and... More

Hotel Santa Maria is in a quiet courtyard. The single-storey rooms are set around an orchard of orange trees. Rooms are comfortable, with proper bathrooms, central heating/air conditioning and free wi-fi. The elegant and charming receptionists helped us find the local decent restaurants (Trastevere is stuffed with poor quality tourist traps) and are a mine of information about the City.... More

This was our second stay at Santa Maria. That should say enough. We loved it just as much the second time. The hotel is very nice, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is great. I have personally recommended it to others who have stayed there and they had the same wonderful experience. We look forward to returning... More

I stayed here based on TA reviews and they were mostly spot on. The folks there were great, location is interesting (see comments below) and getting into center of Rome from there is easy. The layout was really nice and the rooms were very pleasant and very clean. Nice breakfast too. Hopefully all your neighbors will be peaceful, as they... More

Hotel Santa Maria is a quiet oasis in the bustling narrow streets of Trastevere. You wouldn't think you were in the heart of a major city. The rooms are around a pleasant courtyard, rather like a cloister. The rooms are clean and quite comfortable, the breakfasts good, and the staff very friendly and helpful. If arriving by plane, I'd recommend... More

Lovely hotel in an unspoilt part of Rome in the District of Trastevere. Room was clean and very comfortable, breakfast with Italian coffee was very good. The staff were all very good from the reception to the breakfast waiter, very friendly and also very helpful with suggestions on where to eat. The area is great to walk around in the... More

I always worry that you see a hotel with such great reviews and then are disappointed when you stay there. However on this occasion all the wonderful comments for this hotel are true. We have just returned from a 5 night stay here. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff at all times. It would be unfair to single... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
