We've been recommended this hotel from our friends and we are so thankful. Hotel Santa Maria is everything we asked for, situated in the heart of Trastevere. This ancient part of Rome is lovely, calm and with fantastic restaurants nearby.

Nice breakfast from 07:30 pm. The staff were helpful and served several types of coffee. Santa Maria has a good location, nice restaurants and local shops all around. The tram, number 8, is 2 min walk from the hotel directly to center of Rome. I recommend a visit to St. Maria Church.

Hotel Santa Maria was recommended to us from a friend who lived in Trastevere for 12 years. It couldn't have been any more perfect for what we wanted...a boutique hotel with character and charm, a fabulous breakfast and "happy hour" , all in an area with great restaurants every where you turned. The garden area was beautiful, and something you... More

Small hotel in a perfect location and with a gentle ambiance and pretty courtyard. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and offered good advice when asked about getting around, etc. I asked for gluten-free additions for breakfast and while some places decline, they asked me what I would like. The breakfast was always so fresh. Great location for... More

Family of 5 from US, stayed 4 nights- we loved it! Such a unique hotel and Trastevere is such a great neighborhood to explore. (Gorgeous church of Santa Maria in Trastevere with one of the oldest fountains in Rome in front) (unique restaurants everywhere and winding cobblestone streets) but back to the hotel- spotlessly clean, staff was completely attentive to... Perfect hotel. It is greatly situated within the wonderful Trastevere and close to the historic centre, colosseum and Vatican. The garden is a paradise. Breakfast is excellent (Italy...! ) and the happy hour offers awesome italian style snacks. All people are very pleasant. The atmosphere is relaxing and calm. You go outside and with a few steps your in between... More

3 star but so much more. A wonderful almost idyllic setting. Perfect host's and staff. A do not miss hotel in the old part of Rome. No restaurant but huge choice nearby. Nothing much could improve it except maybe sprung beds.

We were delighted by our recent stay, a lovely hotel with pretty gardens and a spacious room for our family of five. It is well located tucked away in bustling treaters area but within walking distance of all of Rome 's sights. Pleasant set service and a delicious breakfast too !

The hotel itself was one to remember, it is perfectly located in the heart of a bustling neighborhood within Rome. From the moment I stepped into the property I was greeted warmly from the staff, from there they gave me the download about the property and walked me to my room. Now granite I was sightseeing majority of my day... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
