What a beautiful and peaceful little oasis Hotel Santa Maria is. The staff is very helpful and breakfast in the courtyard every morning was amazing. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. A little on the smaller side but enough space for 2 people. We loved every minute of our stay. A massive thank you to the team at Hotel... More

We arrived at this gorgeous hotel to friendly, welcoming faces. As we were early for our checkin, we had the option of sitting in the rustic lounge or taking advantage of the beautiful courtyard while our room was being prepared. Absolutely no shortage of restaurants, close to all major sites, plenty of shopping options within walking distance. Happy Hour between... More

Our last 'port of call' before leaving Italy. A very fitting end to an amazing holiday. Nestled in the heart of Trastevere this hotel is like a sanctuary. It seemed miles away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and yet walking distance to everything. The accommodation was quaint and spotless and the staff, very discreet and efficient. Very helpful staff always ready for any inquiry . We enjoyed our everyday breakfast in the courtyard. The room was very comfy. Walking distance to piazza Santa Maria and other attractions. There are many restaurants nearby. We would definitely come back again !

The Hotel Santa Maria is a wonderful escape from the very touristy hotels in Rome. The quality of this hotel is measured by the outstanding staff and a very caring and helpful management. We plan on returning.

This hotel is located in the heart of Trastevere, not far from the busy main square. The lovely well shaded courtyard provided a pleasant retreat where we enjoyed complimentary afternoon appetizers with our cold drinks. Our room was clean, well equipped and quiet (very low noise A/C units). Breakfast (mostly continental --- eggs were available) was fresh and of high... More

Many local sites within walkable distance. Many local restaurants. A great area. Hotel is very quiet in a very nice setting. Rooms all on ground floor. Free breakfast that is very good and a happy hour in the evening that includes all kinds of finger food. Very good security with multiple TV cameras and have to be buzzed into the... More

Amazing there's only one hotel Santa Maria in the whole of Rome. But who needs another? This came recommended by friends as somewhere nice, characterful, and mid-Rome without a stupid price-tag. This was what they gave us, so who were we to argue? And if you want the same, don't argue with us either, just do it! It's hot here... More

This hotel is a beautiful garden of eden hidden in the trastevere section of Rome. We loved everything from the delicious breakfast, fantastic happy hour with flowing cocktails and awesome appetizers. The hotel staff was so helpful in arranging airport transfers, taxis and suggesting local restaurants. Steer clear of the crowds and tourists of Rome and stay at the Santa... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
