Hotel Santa Maria is a modest, but beautiful gem of a hotel. We loved the location in Trastevere. However, we're not certain we would stay here again, for a couple of reasons. The first is the air conditioning. After our first night, we asked the lady at the front desk if someone could check our system. When we returned that... More

This was our last stop on our Italian vacation. After a long train ride and taxi ride we were thrilled to arrive at Hotel Santa Maria. Our family (2 adults, 17 & 18 year old girls) loved this beautiful place. The pictures on the website are exactly what it looks like in person. Fresh flowers and orange trees. We stayed... More

My family and I loved Hotel Santa Maria ! Service was very kind. The appetizers and breakfast were very divine and satisfying. We most appreciated the beautiful courtyard, which is a great place to relax and spend time with family, friends, and other guests. The beds are comfy and quiet which is a great way to end a long touring... More

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed excellent service. The staff was great and the hotel was beautiful. It was very easy to get to all of the tourist sites, especially using the bikes that were offered by the hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much!

HotelSanta Maria is located in Trastevere with a delightful atmosphere of liveliness, bars, rsstaurants, churches and boutiques. Once you find the alleyway and gates to this oasis, peacefulness and warmth are all yours. The staff could not be more helpful and welcoming mentioning owner Valentina and lovely guest receptionist Malena to name only a few. The grounds and rooms are... More

We had a wonderful say in Rome at the Hotel Santa Maria. Our family of four was perfectly accommodated in a double room with 1 1/2 baths. The breakfast was great and the service was so friendly. We will certainly return in the future.

My family stayed at this lovely little hotel for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. It is tucked away in a cute little neighborhood in the trastevere neighborhood of Rome. The owners and staff are gracious and welcoming. The courtyard is set among orange trees and is a beautiful setting to eat breakfast in. In the evening they light... More

The hotel, was as wonderful as the reviews stated. There was a group,of 10 of us and the staff did everything to make our trip as hassle free and memorable as possible. The location could not, have been more ideal. It was Steps away from the Santa Maria basilica on the square with all the restaurants all within walking distance. I love,the... More

Our family of 5 stayed in two rooms at Hotel Santa Maria and it was spectacular. From the first moment inside the gate to the last on our way out, the staff made you feel special, helped with any and all requests and everyone on the staff spoke real good English. The rooms are very nice, the courtyard is relaxing... More

This hotel may be a bit difficult for your cab driver to find, but it is worth getting lost for. It truly is two steps from the main plaza, but is hidden among the azaleas and honeysuckle behind a privacy gate that opens up on a paradise of blooming plants and trees laden with flowers and citrus fruit. I didn't... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
