This hotel lived up to all of the reviews. It was an oasis in amongst the very lively, bustling Trastevere area. The location is great for walking to all the main attractions. The atmosphere is calm, quiet and chilled, perfect to come back to after roaming Rome. The rooms are clean, well decorated and maintained and the bed (tempur) was... More

We spent 4 days at the Hotel Santa Maria in Trastevere. Nearly all of Rome is walkable from this location. Piazza Santa Maria offers proximity to so many very good small restaurants and it is a short distance to the river and Old Rome. The staff is very helpful and kind. They helped us resolve finding an American Dentist, tickets... More

Very nice location in the middle of Trastevere surounded by a lot of traditional small restaurants. A beautifull location for a romantic stay in Rome. Very good service. Very polite staff. The hotel has a very nice garden area lovely decorated for the christmas period. We will come again to this lovely place.

Our second stay here and there is a reason. The rooms are comfortable, roomy and clean. The staff is more than friendly and VERY helpful. The location is great. Lots of nightlife on the streets around, but quiet in the hotel grounds. You can easily walk to much of tourist Rome and the staff will help you with public transportation... More

Stayed in this wonderful hotel in heart of Trastevere area. The staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. Room was spotless and breakfast was excellent. Courtyard with orange and lemon trees was beautiful. Would wholly recommend this hotel and will definitely return on next trip to Rome

Thank Hotel Santa Maria. You made our four day trip to Rome over Thanksgiving absolutely magical. We found your hidden gem through Trip Advisor, and all the reviews that led us to choose you were spot on. I echo the sentiments of all others raving about your hotel. Our Suite Mansarda was perfect in every way for our family of... More

WOW, what a pleasant experience, serene/romantic atmosphere (and the lovely Holiday spirit), in the midst of hectic Rome, in early December! Rooms in a garden/orchard/courtyard setting, very sweet and intimate, very comfortable, great free wifi in room+public areas, and all modern facilities. To the very last detail, everything was made available for the guests from bikes, umbrellas, happy-hour tasty appetizers,... More

I absolutely loved the Hotel Santa Maria! I found it on Trip Advisor and booked based on the feedback and pictures. I was so excited about staying there and was not at all disappointed when I finally arrived. The pictures are accurate! The room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The breakfasts spoiled us for the... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
