My family and I stayed at Santa Maria for 2 nights before our cruise. Santa Maria is a very nice and cozy hotel excellently located at a quiet and quaint neighbourhood, with lots of eateries just outside of the hotel. It is very clean within the hotel and the rooms. I booked the Junior suite for my family of 4... More

My parents and I stayed at Hotel Santa Maria for six nights in Rome. It was absolutely perfect with delicious breakfast each morning, immaculately clean, and in the perfect Roman neighborhood, Trastevere. It is quaint and picturesque. The staff is superb and very friendly. Our every need was met! I hope to return soon!! Grazie mille!!!!

What a pleasure it was to stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. Perfectly located in the heart of the Trastevere but tucked away from the bustle with its own private courtyard oasis. We stayed with our teenaged sons in a spacious room with a mezzanine loft which worked perfectly. Great hot showers, lovely breakfast and a very inviting bar area.... More

We stayed in a family room at this hotel and really appreciated the welcome of the staff. We landed at Rome Fiumicino airport and made our way to get the Leonardo express (14€) into central Rome. We bought a bus ticket at the newspaper kiosk at the front entrance of Termini station and made our way over to the H... More

Trastevere is a great place to use as a base for your Roman holiday: it is vibrant, full of local cafes and restaurants and you can walk to all the sites you have come to Rome to see without having to be stuck in tourist hell. This time round we chose Hotel Santa Maria as our home away from home... More

We have been lucky enough to travel to Italy three times in the past 10 years and happened across Hotel Santa Maria on our first trip. What a lucky find it was!! Tucked away in its own private hideaway, but so conveniently close to so many attractions, dining and shopping. Every room is clean and wonderfully decorated and private as... More

We were lucky to have found this Hotel - by pure chance, while browsing the web! The old Villa gives the visitor a great "homecoming" feeling from the very first moment. The location- in Trastevere, is ideal for all kinds of endeavors in the city of Rome on foot! Great friendly personnel, ready to help with advice when needed, making... More

Lovely hotel in great location, away from the busy crowds. Super friendly, helpful staff with great local knowledge and recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants. Will stay here again next time we visit Rome.

This hotel lived up to all of the reviews. It was an oasis in amongst the very lively, bustling Trastevere area. The location is great for walking to all the main attractions. The atmosphere is calm, quiet and chilled, perfect to come back to after roaming Rome. The rooms are clean, well decorated and maintained and the bed (tempur) was... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
