We visited Hotel Santa Maria i May 2015 on a family trip. We were 5 adults and 1 baby and we were lucky enough to have the trip paid by a 3ed party. My wife and I have visited Rome 4 times before and there is no doubt that this hotel is the best we have stayed in during our... More

This hotel was great, not only were they all very nice and helpful, the rooms were very big and spacious..you cannot really find that in Italy. We loved the rooftop lounge area, it was right outside our door and we were able to relax with a bottle of wine and just enjoy the late evening. The hotel is in a... More

Loved our visit to Hotel Santa Maria. Staying in the Trevestere area was a treat. A few movies were being filmed around the corner, it is such a coveted location. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast under the trees was memorable. Great restaurant recommendations from the front desk and a truly enjoyable time!

Just spent three nights at this lovely hotel in Trasevere. Pros: quiet oasis in busy Rome, great breakfast, great staff, great place for sitting outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather, comfortable beds Cons: rooms are very small, there were a lot of families staying here. I don't know if it is normally like this but young children were running around... More

Wonderfully appointed hotel. Beautiful grounds and helpful and friendly staff. I truly enjoyed my short stay at Santa Maria and wish I had booked more days, just to enjoy the hotel longer. I will be returning.

A beautiful hotel with a lovely courtyard shaded by orange trees. We stayed in a junior suite, which worked very well as a family room (providing a separate room for the kids to sleep in). The breakfast was very nice, as was the buffet at happy hour. We loved the location, just a couple of blocks from Piazza Santa Maria,... More

This was our 2nd stay at the beautiful Santa Maria and we will come back again. Tranquil courtyard shaded by orange trees to welcome you back after long day of adventures in busy Rome and also a wonderful place to start your day with great breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. A Roman treasure to be sure.

I can really only echo what others have said. The hotel is quiet, peaceful and secure yet only minutes from bustling city squares, restaurants and shops. Trastavere is still a bit bohemian in feel, and not at all affected by corporate brands – all the coffee bars here are independents – not Starbucks! Rome is a walkable city and even the... More

In the middle of the lively Trastevere district, you enter this small hotel through a gate an a narrow street less than a minute's walk from the Piazza di Santa Maria. Inside, there is a quiet and peaceful garden and 21 clean and spacious rooms. The staff are very polite and helpful, and arranged transport and restaurant reservations on our... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
