We stayed here in early July and the presentation at this hotel was charming! The decor was quality, exuding an eclectic feeling of old world mixed with modern details. We enjoyed actually being able to open our window on a breezy evening, and felt we found the perfect peaceful retreat from the busy explorations of our day. We particularly enjoyed... More

My wife and I enjoyed a stay at Hotel San Anselmo as part of our honeymoon this August. The hotel is a beautifully-presented place; lovely decorations, decent rooms with decent air-con and confortable beds. The breakfast was a very good quality continental selection, which was attentively monitored and served by the staff. The location is in a really nice quiet... More

We chose this hotel as part of our Honeymoon trip to Europe, and stayed three nights. We chose it based on other reviews, and the photos from the hotel website. This hotel seemed to be close to many of the sites we wanted to see, but beyond that, it had the romantic flavor that we were looking for. Something that... More

Don't let the tour books tell you the Aventine is too far off the beaten path to begood for sightseeing. With both good Metro access and a location only a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum, the Hotel San Anselmo provided a lovely, peaceful respite from the bustle of the historic center. Although our reserved room was in the San... More

I couldn't have chosen better. The hotel is probably best suited to those happy not to be in the centre of things, in a lovely mostly residential area with wonderful surroundings. The rooms are all unique in keeping with the building. Great range of toiletries; slippers etc. Breakfast was good. Where the hotel excelled was in the staff who were... More

Our stay at the Hotel San Anselmo was a delight! The hotel was located perfectly for our intended activities. As an archaeologist with a historian partner we were only ever going to focus on the ancient remains, and the hotel's proximity to the Circus Maximus, Forum and Palantine, as well as baths of Caracalla was perfect. It was possible to... More

My husband and I visited Rome in late July and early August 2015. It was my husband's second trip to the city, but my first. My husband had visited before on a business trip; at that time his company was booked into a very large and lavish hotel in the north of the city, near Termini Station and the Borghese.... More

We visited Rome in the middle of their heat wave and loved being tucked away in the wonderfully quiet, shady area of the Aventine Hill. It was so nice to come back to such quietness after a busy, hot day of sightseeing. The A/C and wifi worked wonderfully! We were given room 812 which exceeded all of my expectations and... More

The room we started with was small, even by European standards. I read some negative reviews before we went, which stated as much, and I had passed them along to my traveling partner. Nevertheless we went. The first night in the tiny room was rather unpleasant. We had to open our suitcases in the little space in front of the... More

A fabulous boutique hotel with much to offer, but the biggest benefit is peace and quiet offered by the Aventine Hill. The Aventine is an upscale, very quiet residential area that is off the beaten path and Hotel San Anselmo is an oasis in noisy, crowded, hot and tourist-ridden Rome. We were within walking distance to most landmarks, but often... More

Staying in Aventine

Neighborhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
