After a long day of train travel we arrived at Hotel Smeraldo in the evening. Eugenio at the front desk assured us we had a very good room. At first glance, yes it was small and the decor was outdated, but it was basically fine. It was smaller than anything in the states but not crazy for Europe. We asked... More

Very nice location and quaint hotel. The staff were really nice. The let down and the reason for 3 stars instead of 4 was no hot water 2 mornings in a row. I really like having to shave with cold water and I need my early morning shower.

Hotel Smeraldo is in the heart of Rome, near the Campo di Fiore (market) and Piazza Argentina (transportation hub). Lovely boutique shops are nearby, not to mention great restaurants. The rooms are modern but small. They have a buffet breakfast, mainly cold, but adequate. The hotel caters to small groups. Some of the infrastructure could use updating. Staff is very... More

We ended up here for one night after our flight was canceled due to the Rome airport fire and had to check out of our previous apartment. We booked very last minute, obviously, so there wasn't much choice in rooms. That is not the hotel's fault. If we could have booked a larger room (maybe a three bed room) it... More

Stayed here for 3 nights early April, 2015. Room is small be very clean and comfortable. The location is great, you can walk to many of the major central rome sites. There are many close food options, cafeteria, trattoria, resturants and bars. There is a great bakery/pizza place next door as well as a good gelato shop. The beds were... More

We booked this hotel for its location near to the Pantheon and some squares for choice for dinner. We weren't disappointed. Rome is a surprise with everything literally within walking distance so when the reviews said this place was in the heart of Rome, they weren't mistaken. On arrival at 12.30 pm we were pleasantly told our room was ready... More

We stayed for 3 nights in March and had a positive experience. Front desk staff was very helpful, and location very convenient too, close to a transportation hub and places to eat. Our room was updated and very clean, but also VERY SMALL and considering the size of the room perhaps a bit overpriced too. We had reserved a "Deluxe"... More

We chose the Smeraldo for its location. It was a trade off between a newer, American style hotel (typically more expensive in town, less so if you don't mind being 20 minutes by car outside of town), or an older European style hotel, well located, reasonably priced. Although the accommodations were on the small side, they were more than adequate.... More

2 rooms with a bath in the middle, was perfect for my 2 daughters and I. Great location, right by some great restaurants, Gelato and of course the Pantheon. half a block away is "Anna's" restaurant, fantastic food, service and price. We had dinner there 3 nights.
