We stayed here in May 2008, and at that time, the room was stuffy and small, but clean and worthy of a stay on a budget because Trastevere is fabulous! Such a wonderful part of Rome. I call it the Brooklyn of Rome!

Seems like a decent budget hotel in an excellent location in Trastevere. It's more motel than hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are clean. We stayed in a family room with a double bed and a fold out bunk bed. It was just the right size for a one night stay. It would be too small for a longer stay. We... More

Dear guest , thank you for your review I remember perfectly the problem and I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience. As you wrote , the staff promptly answered to fix the problem and for us the A.C. was working. It was probably a communication problem,on how to use the air conditioning, We will try to build on what is... More

This a simple and basic hotel but cannot be beat for location, value and gracious service. Rooms are spotlessly clean and well serviced. Breakfast is basic continental and coffee was excellent. Staff cannot do enough for you. We were a stones throw from great little restaurants, bars and wherever else the day took us. Located very close to tram so... More

This hotel is in the best location! The staff directed us to the #8 Tram that took us straight to the center of Rome -- a walk to all the hot spots. Our room was quite and comfy and the breakfast was quite good. Just ask for your type of coffee and munch on fresh rolls, cereal, one soft cheese... More

Stayed here for October weekend. First, this is a simple basic hotel- no frills in the rooms, lobby, no bar etc. the rooms are quote small, bathroom very small. But this is a good hotel. The no frills approach extends to the running of the hotel, it is simple, straightforward and it works. As others have said it is a... More

My mother, sister and I recently shared a family room on our long weekend in Rome. Hotel Travestere is perfectly located in an area that was relatively quiet in the immediate vicinity but surrounded by excellent bars and restaurants. It was also only fifteen minutes walk from the old part of the city (Roman Forum, Colosseum etc). We found the... More

This is a tough one to review and rate, especially for a North American on his first trip to Europe. It defintely doesn't have the creature comforts of a similar priced hotel we'd expect in North America, but from our limited experience it seems to be the norm for here. The best feature of this hotel is location. It's in... More

My husband and I have just returned from an eight day stay in Rome , which followed a tour of Tuscany. I had stayed at Hotel Trastevere last September with my sister. It was good to see the same dedicated group of employees, to have a view of Piazza San Cosimato this time, and to live for awhile, in a... More

We arrived in Rome only to find that our expected accomodation , already paid for and non- refundable at the Jewish Ghetto Apartments was non-existent (so don't book there!). Fortunately we found a room at hotel Trastevere which was great - good location in a great neighbourhood full of good ristorante, lovely breakfast and very friendly staff, very happy to... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
