So the location of the hotel, the breakfast and the staff were all great. I booked this hotel because it was recommended by Rick Steves and because of the location, but it was not what I expected & I think that's only because of our specific room. They gave us a room on the top of their roof. We had... More

I have stayed here about five times, most of the visits being for only a night when on business. This time I stayed four nights and was given the best room I have had which was spacious, with a decent size bathroom and an outdoor space as well! This was particularly useful to rest in when the heat was at... More

With a great location near the Spanish Steps and one of the nicest hotel staffs I have ever met, the Hotel San Carlo was fantastic. Both our rooms had beautiful terraces and one of them had a spectacular view of the dome of the Cathedral down the street. Victoria set us up with an entertaining and reasonably priced driver to... The Hotel San Carlo is a quaint hotel with a super location in Rome. The rooms are not big, but we had enough room. The bathroom is small, but adequate. The hallways are narrow with a lot of turns, but that adds to the charm of the hotel. The beds are firm and comfortable. The linens are nice as are... More

I chose Hotel San Carlo on the recommendation of Rick Steves. The hotel has a great location near the Spanish Steps. I had booked a double superior room and was given a room with two levels and large bath. A very welcome change after spending 3 weeks trekking across Europe. Staff was very helpful and anticipated many things. They even... More

I don’t remember exactly what made me book the Hotel San Carlo, but I’m so happy I did. It was perfect for us during our 7-nite stay in Rome. The hotel location is right in the middle of things (although surprisingly quiet), with the Spanish Steps one way and the Via del Corso the other. We only took a cab... More

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2015

Upon very favorable recommendations from friends, we stayed three nights. Our first night we were given a room with a window that opened into the breakfast terrace - which meant we had no privacy and noise from guests eating breakfast. We asked to change rooms and were told to "just try it for the first night." That first night was... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2015

We checked in early from completion of a cruise and were able to get a room right away (room #79) - air conditioned, unexpectedly large room and bathroom, lovely small outside seating area, TV with 2 English speaking stations available. The people staffing the Front desk spoke English and were very helpful with suggestions and navigating the area. By our... More

Stayed for five nights in May. Very safe, well located, and charming. Staff are super, especially Dante. Cabs are essential in Rome, so location one block from cab stand is important. Shopping, food and Spanish steps within 1-2 block radius. Breakfast was great and the atmosphere is welcoming. Good wifi and electrical connections. Nice bathroom and terrace.

Staying in Campo Marzio

Neighborhood Profile
Campo Marzio
From its original role as ancient army training fields to its present-day identity as one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods, the Campo Marzio is the best place to get lost in Rome. Gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque palazzos line the streets, and are filled with enticing boutiques and food shops. By day, Rome’s best-dressed denizens criss-cross its streets in a fashionable parade of errands, occasionally pausing to look fabulous in gorgeous piazzas like San Lorenzo in Lucina. Campo Marzio can be a bit of a sleeper after aperitivi hour (9pm), so visit by day and experience the pulse of daytime Rome.
