Some poor reports on TA, but we were very pleasantly surprised. Good sized room, comfortable King Size bed, nice bathroom (most rooms have showers but are slightly bigger) Spotlessly clean, quiet, convenient for transport. Breakfast is perfectly normal continental breakfast. Rolls, cream cheese, croissants, jams, Nutella, honey, biscuits. Cereals (choice of 3) are quite the norm for the Continent. Muesli,... More

Recently returned from a short break to Rome, booked with tourcenter.co.uk. The hotel is handy for Termini train station which is just a 2 minute walk away. The hotel itself is clean with friendly and helpful staff. The room we had was just right for a few nights. Comfy bed, good air-con/heating with a really strong shower. Windows fully sound... More

Stayed here for 3 days. The hotel room was very, very smal and the bathroom even smaller. It is very neat and clean but unfortuanetly this is the only positve. I have stayed in more than 10 different countries and this hotel serves the worst breakfast ever. The neigbourhood is questionable to say the least and I did feel uncomfortable... More

We booked this as a short break for me, my wife and mother in law. It was really difficult to get a single room so had to pay double hence the cheaper hotel. Where do I start!! Location This was terrible, really run down and lots of undesirables in the area. However it was close to the train station and... More

The Hotel Mariano isn't in a particularly nice area, but it is near to the termini so to access metro services the location is good. The hotel itself is reasonably clean, breakfast is poor though. The reception staff refused to call us a taxi which we had the number from as they use another company which charges €20 over the... More

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of September 2014. The shuttle service from the airport takes you to the Termini train station which is no more than a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The shuttle bus costs 4 Euros each way per person and takes around 35 minutes. The rooms are basic but very clean, shower... More

Good location - Termini station literally round the corner & 10/15 in walk to main attractions. Hotel room was very clean and ample size for 2 people. Some of the best restaurants in Rome located near the hotel. On a negative, there is no free wifi & breakfast is very limited. For £60/ night though, very happy. PS. Don't go... More

Sent here by David Urquhart/Sky Travel. Been to Rome twice before but this was an eye opener. Felt uncomfortable and un-nerved when outside hotel as it sits on a street with no other hotels, surrounded by graffiti, boarded up premises with males hanging about outside at all times of the day. Think it is in a sort of China Town... More

Travelled to Rome with a friend for the Italy/England Rugby 2014 Six Nations match. Stayed at The Mariano for 2 nights 14/15th March. The hotel is very convenient for Termini station which is within an easy 5 minute walk and also convenient for the centre which is more like 15 minutes walk downhill, so the journey back is a little... We stayed at this hotel a while back in a room upstairs. We walked in and were overcome by the smell of sewerage. When we went downstairs to ask the concierge to move us, we were told there were no other rooms available and pulled out a can of air freshened from underneath the counter and told us to try... Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
