The location is close to the train and bus stations. The reception area gives the impression of a hotel but offered little amenities. Beverages only available with breakfast. Coffee machine in the hall was out of order. The room was a double and en suite. Pretty basic with bed and tv. No access to the internet as the reception desk... More

This is a standard three star hotel. The room was quite old fashioned but clean. The breakfast choice was sparse but the rolls and cheese spread were lovely. The shower was cold. The lift is very modern

The decor and furnishings let it down. The sheets were pristine, as were the towels. The cleaning staff do a grand job but the room was so antiquated it was depressing. We were on the side that looks out onto the back yards and our room 310 had a 'lean to' under the window so it didn't feel safe enough... More

We stayed here from the 4-7th of June and were very impressed with the hotel. We stayed in room 308 which had a nice view of the building next to the hotel. The room was big and clean. We only had breakfast there once and didn't like it so ate elsewhere but that's more to do with our preferences rather... More

The staff were rude, gave very little to no advice or guidance on the services offered and tried to mislead us over the charges of city tax which had already been paid. Would recommend booking a different hotel at all costs

Staff are friendly and so helpful the hotel so central within walking distance to the main tourist attractions and close to termini station and it's only €1.50 to get a train to the Vatican from here saves on getting tour buses I would recommend this hotel

Had a very nice stay here, and the staff were very happy to help and tell us about how to get around Rome especially the older gentleman at the front desk. Very clean hotel which is always important for me. Great location near termini station and near Santa maggori basilica where we got our open top bus tour from.

We thought the Mariano Hotel is very good value for money if you are on a budget. Its a 3 star, but it is very clean and comfy and the staff are very friendly & helpful. Our double room was a good size, with everything we needed, it was clean and tidy, and the bed was nice and firm &... More

On checking in, the receptionists English was very good and was very straight forward, we stayed on the 5th floor and the room was a good size, clean and comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and had a hairdryer. The Hot shower was to die for after a cold wet day sightseeing. The hotel is 5 mins to the termini where... More

We booked this trip through Groupon and had a choice of two hotels we picked this one as it was close to the colosseum, the hotel manager was friendly and pointed out various locations on a map he gave us, the hotel is only about a 15 minute walk to the colosseum! The room itself was quite dated but was... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
